Hermit crabs can make great pets for many reasons, including their low-maintenance nature. However, they are sociable and active pets that require specific care, just like any other pet. Before you become the parent of one of these tiny crustaceans, you’ll need to set up a suitable hermit crab habitat before you invite them home. One of the most crucial parts of setting up an appropriate place for your crab to live is providing a heat lamp to stay warm and comfortable.
Different species of hermit crabs require different amounts of heat. However, your hermit crab will most likely need to have a warm and damp environment. You’ll want to keep their home between 72- and 80-degrees Fahrenheit with about 75% humidity. We recommend using some sort of hygrometer to keep track of the humidity and a thermometer for the temperature.
Hermit crabs are nocturnal animals, so they will be most active when the sun sets for the day, which means your tiny crustacean will spend most of the day in hiding. However, you don’t want the habitat too lit up because too much light will decrease your crab’s activity.
A regular white light or full-spectrum lighting will suffice during the daytime but use a red light during the night. The red light won’t affect your hermit’s activity and rhythm.
The ideal home for your pet is in a glass terrarium or an aquarium with a screened lid. It should be big enough to fit three or four crabs with plenty of room to roam. Usually, a 10-gallon tank will do the job for up to three crabs. A wire cage is not recommended because they don’t provide the correct amount of humidity for hermit crabs to feel comfortable.
The tank or terrarium your shelled friend lives in should contain a few items for them to live happily and comfortably. Here are a few supplies you’ll need to provide an appropriate habitat:

What is the best way to heat hedgehog cage with lamp?
I am about to get a crested gecko and have done lots of research, but am nervous I'll kill my crestie. You see, lots of people have different opinions about additional lighting. 1 breeder said a heat lamp killed many of his crested geckos, while another breeder said it killed her geckos when they DIDNT have a heat lamp. Should I get a heat lamp? (My tank is a 12 by 12 by 18, of that helps at all) Also, should that size tank be good for 1 crested gecko for his entire life?
SO i am thinking about getting a leopard gecko, but i am not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a cage so i am using a plastic laundrey hamper that seems about maybe 10 gallons and i am setting up little hiddy spots and stuff but i dont know wha tbeedding i should use and how much light they need please hep :)
Hi there. So I am looking into getting a heat dome for my crested gecko. I know they don’t have to have a heat lam but I want him to have a UVB bulb Because it’s good for them. But I am not quite sure that type to get. Any suggestions? I was looking at petco’s tropical combo pack. He lives in a 10 g. With live plant. (I will upgrade when he is bigger) also do you know an age on him? I got him 3 months ago from petsmart. I could tell he was a male a week after I got him. (Pic from yesterday)
Is this a good setup for Nighthawk, the first photo is the over all setup, the second one is the side view and the third is the water and calcium dishes. I use an under tank heater that stays at about 88 degrees Fahrenheit and the vines are fake. He has a warm hide and a cold hide with moss in it that’s i spray down every other day. The little box is another little hide that I can see him in. And the background is tile it paper rolls that were painted(they were left to dry for two weeks)
What is wrong? What do I do? It’s not soft it’s very hard and he has a heat lamp and uvb. Thx
Whay can i do about my hachling iguana over heating
bought three hermit crabs on June 28th. Two of them are very active and have even witnessed them changing shells a few times. However, the third one seems to be staying burrowed most of the time. I am concerned.
How should you care for your reptile during a power outage?
My hermit crab hasn’t changed her shell I bought her the right sizes and she hasn’t changed her shell for almost 3 months what should I do?
Just wanting to know am I able to use a reptile heat lamp for newborn puppies??
I found my hermit crab shell in my tank I think it’s dead but then I’ve seen legs inside of the tank and they moved what should I do oh an I took out the other shell
