Frequently Asked Questions

Vetco Vaccination Clinics are express, mobile clinics in either a dedicated room or section of the Petco store, and Vetco Total Care locations are permanent full-service hospitals inside Petco. Both are owned and operated by Petco. For a complete comparison of the services offered at each location, see the chart above.

Your dog or cat should be seen by a veterinarian every 6 months to a year, and more often when they are a puppy, kitten or senior. Senior age is typically considered to be 6+ years for dogs and 10+ years for cats. Routine wellness exams allow for early detection and intervention. Your pet’s veterinarian will track your pet’s health and development and will be able to answer any questions about their overall wellbeing.

Most vaccinations will need to be administered yearly. Rabies and DHPP vaccines may have a duration of 1 to 3 years, depending on your pet’s age and your local animal control regulations. It’s important to bring any vaccination records with you to your vet visit so the team can determine your pet’s appropriate vaccination needs. For example, in order for a rabies or DHPP vaccine to offer a 3-year duration of protection, you must bring the records that show your pet received a 1-year vaccine in the past.

We recommend pets be fully vaccinated, even if they don’t receive grooming services at Petco. For the health and safety of all guests and groomers, we require proof of current vaccinations based on your pet’s age. Requirements for dogs under 16 weeks old include at least two series of puppy DHPP (5-in-1 vaccine). For dogs 16 weeks and older, rabies vaccination is required. Requirements for cats under 16 weeks old include FVRCP (parvovirus, herpesvirus type-1 and calicivirus). For cats 16 weeks and older, a rabies vaccination is required.

We recommend dogs be fully vaccinated, even if they don’t join us for dog training. To participate in training classes, we require your pet be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, including DHPP (parvovirus, hepatitis, and distemper) vaccinations for all dogs and puppies and rabies for dogs 16 weeks or older.

We will assume your pet has not been appropriately vaccinated and protected.

Services for small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles, etc.) vary by location. Call your local Vetco Total Care animal hospital for details.

If you are visiting us for the first time, please bring your pet’s medical records, including their vaccination records, and a list of any medications you are currently providing your pet. If you are a returning pet parent, we will have records on file. Dogs also need to be on a leash and cats should be in a carrier to prevent them from escaping your control.

Appointments are required at Vetco Vaccination Clinics. For Vetco Total Care animal hospitals, you can either book an appointment online, call or walk in to check availability with our vet staff.

For Vetco Vaccination Clinics, please manage your appointment here. Vetco Total Care appointments may also be managed here, or you can call your hospital location directly.
