Science Diet is a brand of cat and dog foods made and marketed by Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. (a subsidiary of the Colgate-Palmolive Company).
Dr. Mark Morris' son, Dr. Mark Morris Jr., continued to help grow Hill's Pet Nutrition over the next several decades and noticed a demand for consistent, high-quality pet food. He developed a food for healthy pets, which, in 1968, made available through veterinarians and pet professionals as Hill's® Science Diet®. In 1976, the Colgate-Palmolive Company purchased Hill's Pet Nutrition.
The Hill's Science Diet products sold at Petco stores in the USA are made in the USA with global ingredients you can trust.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition has grain-free dog foods. These products are formulated with the best interests of pet health and well-being as our top priority. All of our grain-free dry dog foods have been fortified with taurine, as have other dry dog foods in our portfolio of carefully balanced complete nutrition pet foods. We invest considerable resources to understand emerging science about pets, their nutritional needs, and health and formulate accordingly. We continue to monitor any FDA updates on this matter as well as scientific developments and we support the FDA’s investigation.

I was reading a few questions people have put on here and they said that their cat choked ok the indoor science diet for adult cats because it's so big. What other science diet would you recommend if that is an issue?
I am fostering an over weight cat for an animal shelter. He has been put on a special diet by a vet. He started the diet 2 weeks ago, weighing 20.4 lbs. I took him for his first weigh-in yesterday and he has actually GAINED 2 pounds. How can that be? The diet he is on is 3/8 cup Science Diet metabolic diet dry food plus 7/8 of a can of Science Diet metabolic diet canned food. That's his total food intake for the day.
If a company such as natural balance has veterinary nutritionalists on staff is that the same as brands like science diet and royal canin? Also I've always though brands like science diet and royal canin are junk can you explain why this is or isn't true?
My male cats are always hungry. I'm taking one that is very obese to the vet on Sat. He eats science diet weight control and he's still huge. The other male is not as fat but he's always hungry and gaining weight. He's fed Science diet uninary.
We have four dogs at home. One is eating Science Diet, two The Honest Kitchen and a puppy on loyall from breeder. We took puppy to training and they tried switching her fully from loyall to the honest kitchen and she was pooping a lot. So they went back to loyall. We just picked her up from training. I am trying to decide if I should try science diet puppy or switch her over to the honest kitchen and deal with her pooping all the time on it. What is best? Science diet or honest kitchen?
Melanie: Is Purina dog chow lower quality than royal canin or science diet for example? Please explain.
Hi I was just wondering if hills science diet is a good food to feed my dogs? Is it nutritional?
My 8mo old boxer/great Dane mix is having 5-8 poops a day. We are using science diet puppy food.
Vet suspects mild cruciate ligament damage in both hind legs. Suggested mobility diet & cosequin supplements. I switched to Science Diet Mobility & give cosequin daily per instructions on bottle. Also give Science Diet Flexi Stix Jerky with glucosamine & chondroitin, Zuke's Mobility Chews, & Pet Botanics Omega Plus treats. Also feeding Milkbone Brushing Chews. Anything else I could be doing? I asked about specific exercises but vet didn't give any. Would like to avoid surgery if possible.
Has been on Merrick...for about 3 weeks..then stopped eating it. Was vomiting & some loose stools. Doc did all the tests on her....all came back negative. So he suggested us try a prescription Science Diet. We did& she's so constipated she was crying. Called Doc & he said just to go to another Science Diet maintenance food. Tired of trying all the time with no results & I can't keep calling him each time.
Hi I was speaking with one of your vets before about senior diet cat foods that are less stressful on the kidneys. Suggestions were purina pro plan 11+, hills science 11+ & royal canin aging 12+, all canned. He wasn't crazy about these but seems to like hills science diet mature 7+ savory chicken minced canned entree. It says its also lower in phosphorus but would love someone's opinion or experience with this food. Thx!!
