Prescription anti-anxiety medication can help dogs suffering from anxiety-related disorders feel calmer and happier. These medications are only available with a veterinarian's prescription and should only be given to dogs under the guidance of a qualified veterinarian. Some common prescription dog anxiety meds include fluoxetine, amitriptyline, and trazodone. These medications work by altering the chemical balance in the brain, which can help to reduce anxiety symptoms in dogs.
Your veterinarian may prescribe anxiety medication after other natural remedies have not worked. To avoid any harm to your pup, always check with your veterinarian to ensure proper use and dosage of medications. Additionally, your veterinarian might want to advise working with a dog trainer in combination with prescribed medication to aid in the unwanted behavior.
Ordering prescription anti-anxiety medicine for dogs is a simple process. Just add the item to your cart, fill in your pet and veterinarian’s information, and Petco will handle getting the prescription.
There are plenty of medications to help calm dogs. Veterinarians can prescribe serotonin-reuptake inhibitors or antidepressants for severe cases. There are also natural calming aids, such as chews, oils and crates.
Oral medications can begin working within 20-30 minutes of ingestion. Other medications prescribed by your veterinarian work over time and can take up to a couple of weeks to start being effective, which is why working with a dog trainer or veterinary behaviorist can be an important mode of therapy for your stressed or anxious pet, depending on the inciting cause.

What products do you suggest to help a dog with anxiety during fireworks or vet appointments?
What solutions are available for dog travel anxiety
We have a dod from humane society that has severe seperation anxiety. She never leaves my side. Best medication to help her. Does benadryl work? She poops when left alone, she is an adult dog. Cannot crate she had injured herself escaping, ate crate cover. Really need to help her before I have to get rid of her. Its really bad. Thanks Lmp
Are there any supplements that can be used safely to reduce anxiety in a pregnant dog?
Dog is 37 pounds terrier mix. She is having anxiety issues and can have 5mg of melatonin. Can I give her another 5mg of melatonin. The anxiety is because she has not been with her regular owner
My dog has SEVERE separation anxiety. I have to kennel her when I leave the house, but despite crate training her as a pup, she never got used to the kennel. She has tried to break out and hurt herself, she salivates to the point where she gets soaking wet and dehydrated, and she hyperventilates. I've tried thunder shirts, calming aids, and tons of crate training. Nothing works! What do you suggest I do? Is there a prescription that might help her? We're both desperate!
Alrighty. So my older dog(10 yr female mini schnauzer) has become increasingly anxious with age. It’s generalized (includes sound, separation, and then random panic) and there are no health issues causing it other than old age and most likely feeding off my grandmothers dimentia and anxiety. What can I add to her lifestyle to help ease her anxiety and make sure she is comfortable? Please list any treats, supplements, or activities. I am willing to do whatever needed.
My maltese has diabetes. Is there anything you can recommend that I give my dog to help with anxiety? Once the fireworks start, he starts panting and shaking like crazy. I've tried holding him, taking him into the bathroom and turning the fan on, giving him benadryl. Nothing works. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Diane
Our 3.5 year old yorkie suffers from terrible anxiety. He is on a quarter of a 100 mg Trazodone tablet a day. We have seen great results for about six months but have noticed him becoming upset again for little or almost no reason. Could he have built up a tolerance?
My 8 year old boxer is on 2 mg Xanax 8-12 hours as needed due to severe severe anxiety. Today I gave it to him and he did not show any signs of it working. I took him for a walk and he went berserk. I could barely control him and couldn’t distract him which usually works. Could he be acting worse Bc of the medicine and can I increase the dosage? He is 76 pounds.
My dog has been diagnosed with thyroid issue and they put her on meds for it. She had been responding well to the medication at first but all of a sudden she is super high anxiety and she acts like she wants to go to bathroom but she stops to sit down every few steps and whines like she's trying to do the boot scoot but doesn't know how. She seems to calm down when I'm right there consoling her but if I get up to do anything she really freaks out.
So I have two dauschunds one has a bit of anxiety when it comes to loud noises. With Fourth of July coming up what is best to give her? I have heard Benadryl or melatonin. Which is better for them?
