When you are ready to find a feathered friend, check out Petco's selection of cockatiels, parakeets, conures, and finches online then visit your local store to see which birds are available to purchase. While you’re there, stock up on all the essentials to properly care for your new friend. Find bird food, cages, toys, litter, and feeders to help keep your new pet happy and healthy.
Of course! Birds in general can require less immediate attention than traditional pets like dogs or cats, and for pet parents with busier schedules, a pet bird might make a great option. That said, make sure you’re prepared to give your bird the care and attention they need before bringing one home.
The best pet bird for you may vary depending on your daily activities and personality. Canaries, finches, parakeets, and cockatiels are some of the best birds for novice pet parents.
Pet birds come in a dizzying assortment of species and personalities and there is one to fit every type of pet parent and household. Check out Petco’s live birds in store or online to find your new companion.
Parakeets, or “budgies”, are popular around the world and can be friendly and very loving when properly trained and cared for.
Birds are capable of recognizing and even bonding with their pet parents. Your new pet bird can get used to your voice and face over time as you get to know each other. More affectionate species of birds may grow comfortable with their pet parents and show their comfort by nuzzling or engaging in play.
It is possible to potty train your bird. However, this will take any pet parent time, patience, and a good amount of training. You can talk to your vet or local Petco partner to discuss the best option for you and your new feathered friend.

my 8 month old parakeet seems to be ill. she always sits at her perch. only moves when she has to eat. She is not eating as much as she used to. Sometimes she holds her wings away from her body. She also bobs her neck. Plus she is shivering. I don't have any vets near me. Please help. I always take good care of her and all the other budgies are fine. Please help.
I have two parakeets in a large cage. I just purchased another one and brought it home. When I opened the box, the bird flew away. it's been 2 hours and i can't get the bird in the cage? She keeps flying away. She is onto of cabinet. So I am leaving her alone for now. I am hoping when she gets hungry, she will be easy to catch. What do i do?
My male budgie recently passed away yesterday. The problem is, the male budgie has a female partner named Baby. She is currently in mating period. She just laid one egg. She appears to still want to lay eggs after her partner died. I have other male budgies in another cage. I have 15 budgies currently. 2 of my female birds are mating and staying in the nestbox at this time. How can I continue having 15 budgies? Should I throw the eggs away? I just don’t want any more birds...
How can I tell if my baby parakeet is a boy or girl (the green one I had for four years but I still want to be sure of her gender)And is the blood feather on the yellow one okay since it is not bleeding and is dried up?
My bird species canary is not well. She is not able to walk also. She is shivering. What should we do ?
My parakeet is extremely sick to the point where she can’t even move or eat. We think she has an egg stuck in her vent but we are not sure. I want to take her to a vet but don’t have the money for it, but I don’t just wanna watch her die. What can I do?
Got a budgie around 3 years old she is constantly looking down with her head tilted and this has gone on for around 4 to 5 days
Hello! My parakeet, 6 years old, has developed a thin reddish black growth that seems to be coming from the inside of his beak and splitting off. It's about 1/8 of an inch long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My Budgie's poop sticks to her vent . Some times it's even WHITE. Today she had watery droppings in morning and from then all what she pooped is stuck on her vent. She sits fluffed up some times . Eats and drinks normally. I fed her millet,
My budgie gets easily tired when flying. He lands on the floor and breathes rapidly. He also moves his tail sideways when he tries to poop and he's been quieter than he used to
