If your pooch has been spending more time scratching than fetching, it might be their allergies acting up. Just like people, canines can become sensitive to allergens in their environment. If you notice that your pup is sneezing, constantly licking or has watery eyes, consult your veterinarian.
Petco carries five types of prescription medications and antihistamines for dogs that help soothe discomfort. Each can be given orally and is available in capsule or tablet form for dogs, cats, and other small animals. While most work to control symptomatic itching, there are some differences. We’ll help you understand what each allergy relief for dogs treats and why your veterinarian might prescribe one over the other:
If the pollen has your pup licking their paws or an itch has them biting their back quarters, explore Petco's wide selection of dog allergy treatments. When you’re ready to order add the item to your cart, fill in your pet and veterinarian’s information, and Petco will handle getting the prescription.
The best allergy relief for dogs depends on the type and severity of the allergy. Your veterinarian can help determine the best course of treatment, which may include antihistamines, corticosteroids, fatty acid supplements, shampoos, and other skin treatments.
No, it is not recommended that you give your dog any human medication without consulting a veterinarian first. Dogs metabolize medications differently than humans, and giving your dog the wrong medication can have serious health consequences.
It is not recommended that you give your dog Equate Allergy Relief or any other human over-the-counter medication without consulting your veterinarian first. Human medications may contain ingredients that can be toxic to animals, or they may contain the wrong dosage. Additionally, some medications may interact with medications that your pet is already taking. For these reasons, it is best to check with a veterinarian before giving any medication to your pet.

What can I do for dog allergy
My dog has allergies and did really well on apoquel. He didn’t do so well on Benadryl. What other over the counter allergy medicine can I try for a 100lb dog?
What otc meds can i give my dog for allergies. He has running nose, sneezing, and itchy.
What is the right medicine for treating allergies to dogs from winter weather?
What is the best over the counter medication for skin allergies for a pitbull
What can I buy over the counter for atopy for a dog?
What medication can I give my dog so he can stop scratching
Chlopheniramine maleate 4mg 1/2 tab twice a day for dachshund is not helping. He has had mucous, sneezes many times in a row. They says it is allergies. Have had erays, lungs are clear. When he is on antibiotics it seems to decrease. Should I try a steroid with a vet? I have basic allergy med in house 180 mg Fexofenadine hydrochloride I could break up into a half a tablet i.e. 70mg. Not sure if I can give him this. What do you recommend?
My 7-year-old lab has HORRIBLE allergies (he itches his so badly skin so raw and develops sores) and vets have prescribed hydroxyzine for him in the past which has worked but I can't afford to take him to the vet right now and he is in constant misery. Benedryl and Claritin don't help much; is there anything else I can give him safe for dogs to help his horrible itching?
Is there a pill I can give my dog for food allergies instead of switching his food?
Is there an over the counter medication or cream to help dogs ear infection caused by allergies? Pollen is making him super itchy.
My dog has been constantly itching. So much, that I have found tiny scabbed over patches in his armpits and throughout his body. Due to no evidence of fleas or any other disturbance, I have narrowed it down to allergies - although I am certainly not a professional, which is why I am here! I do not have any Benedryl, and so I am wondering If it would be appropriate to administer an Allegra D to relieve some of his discomfort until I can get him to the vet? He is a 15.2 lb dachshund.
