For the devoted pet parent willing to commit the time for proper care and socialization, the amazing Amazon can be a wonderful addition to the family wanting an inquisitive, active pet. These parrots are notorious for their ability to learn to mimic, sing and learn tricks—pet parents should be prepared that they can be quite loud.
A habitat for an Amazon should be a minimum of 36 W x 24 D x 48 H inches with bar spacing no larger than a ¾ inch apart. Investing in the largest habitat possible is the best option for your feathered friend. The habitat should have strong metal bars, multiple perches of varying diameters and textures, a variety of species-appropriate toys and a metal grate over a droppings tray to keep your bird out of its droppings.
Specialized pellets should make up 60 to 70% of your parrot’s diet, supplemented with fresh vegetables, fruits and small amounts of fortified seeds. There are many types of diets available that are suitable for large hookbills, try a variety of parrot food to see what your Amazon prefers.
Toys should be designed for large hookbills, and of the appropriate size and materials so that they are not a safety hazard for an Amazon. Provide a variety of toys that provide an outlet for natural behaviors, interacting with your parrot and entertainment. It is recommended that you rotate toys regularly to keep them entertained and prevent boredom.
There are many types of substrate that can be used in the bottom tray of your Amazon's habitat that are non-toxic and absorbent—including pre-cut habitat liners, paper bedding, or other natural ingredients such as walnut or wood.

My lovebird, Clover, seems to have what I speculate to be pbfd. The breeder I got him from seemed a bit sketchy about his feathers, it's also noteworthy that this was the last lovebird in stock. I only took one photo because Clover looks like he's ready to sleep, but I think it shows a lot with his droppings behind him. I'm planning on getting him DNA tested but for now, I want to see what a professional thinks.
