The right dog crate can provide your pup with a safe and secure space where they can express their natural instinct to den. Dog kennels are also an excellent tool to help you house train your puppy. Petco can help you find just the right fit crates or kennels for your dog. Explore our dog gates and pens to keep your dog out of unsafe parts of the house.
When it comes to crating a dog overnight, opinions vary, but the answer will likely depend on your dog. Many adult dogs do just fine with crating overnight for up to eight hours, especially if you provide your pet with plenty of interaction and stimulation during the day. Some dogs with anxious personalities may not do as well in a crate for that long.
Most puppies also will need bathroom breaks during the night, so be prepared to set your alarm for at least one wake-up call.
Giving your dog lots of attention during the day and making their crate a welcoming and positive place will increase the likelihood they’ll do well overnight in a dog kennel. Consult your vet if your dog struggles with crating overnight.
Choosing the right-sized dog crate for your canine will play a big role in their enjoyment of their special sanctuary. Ideally, your dog’s crate should be big enough so your pet can stand, turn around and lie down in the crate.
Many pet parents instinctively want to give their pet a large dog kennel. While well-meaning, this choice might lead to a dog having accidents if there is enough room to lounge in one end of the crate and use the other as a bathroom.
A good way to choose an appropriately-sized dog crate for your pet is to measure your canine from nose to tail and then add a few inches. However, it’s recommended to get new, larger crates as your pet grows instead of buying a large one they’ll grow into eventually. Learn more about helping make your dog feel comfortable and secure with our guide, Finding the Right Crate Size for Your Dog.
These helpful solutions come in all different shapes, sizes and colors. However, you’ll find the four primary types of kennels below.
Each type of dog kennel is ideal for different situations. Wood kennels might not be the best for people who live in humid climates, and soft-sided kennels probably aren’t the best fit for larger pups.

What size crate should I purchase for an adult German Shepherd I am planning to adopt?
hi can u use second han dog cage or new pupy to go into
My dog pees and poops on the carpet when we leave and at night . We have tried everything and she finds her way out . Metal cage-rips gums and teeth out, mesh cage chews her way out, kitchen with a gate chewed base boards has to have wood slivers removed from her mouth, we have take her to the vet many times no urinary trac infection being in her senior years ( 9) . We have sent her to day cares and she just freaks out barks the entire times and they call us to pick her up and nobody sits her.
I need your help here. I've been thinking to purchase a crate and a crate bed and crate cover for my little girl. Since she loves to nap under the table and I thought it'll be much safer and comfortable for her to sleep there from time to time. And safer from the friend's and families children from hurting her. Do you think this would be a good idea?
I'm having trouble trying to find the proper enclosure for my dog. She seems to be having separation anxiety and she already destroyed a part of my door after only being alone for 2 hours. I'm gone for work for about 9 hrs a day so I don't want something where she wouldn't be able to move comfortably..what should I do?
Hey, so I just adopted a beagle from a shelter. I don't know much about her or how her life have been before, just that she was linked to a chain the majority of the time. She is very disobedient,I am now keeping her in a large cage outside, but when I let her out if it, she runs and destroy everything in her way. She even run away one time by a very small hole in the fance. I don't want to keep her inside that cage forever. I also have a labrador puppy, he is very calm, but she was mean with him
Parameters for being outside for a 7/8 yt? old rescue beagle.. She prefers to be out. Had an igloo dog house.
Need help crate training. Will sleep fine at night, and in car. Will sometimes whines in the crate alone (say 2 out of 10 times ). She has a dog run and she is doing very well in there increasing her times in there as I do school online. How long should we get her comfortable in there if she has a big sheltered dog run ?
I moved into my new place and recently bought a crate/fence for her for when I leave to work. I tried leaving her alone for 20 minutes and she wouldn't stop barking. She even pushed her way (while still in the cage) to the front door. I even gave her calming treats but that didn't seem to work either. What should I do?
I have a 9 year old dog who has always been crated but suddenly he has been tearing up his crate and escaping. What can I do? I am at a loss and I can't leave him loose in my house all day.
My Amstaff is very destructive when i leave, i have replaced couches and bought a crate but now i have had to replace his bedding and crate pads seven times i can't afford to keep replacing things. he is a rescue dog about 1 1/2 yrs old. i do walk him for an hr everyday before i leave he has toys or bones but pays them no attention in his crate but i can't stop in during my work hrs i am a roofer and rarely take any breaks I am running out of ideas and moneymy frustration lvl is not helpinimsure
