Bought Twice - Faulty Halogen Connection

I have bought this lamp twice. The first time I owned it for about 2 months when the halogen bulb went out. I figured it was just time for a new bulb so I replaced the bulb, but it just went out again. I was able to get it to turn back on by slightly jiggling the bulb. But it would continuously go off and I’d have to jiggle it several times a day. I decided to buy a new one and it seemed fine. After a week, the same problem happened with the new one. I really need a lamp that works and until this one acted up, I really loved it.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Fire Hazard

I have had this fixture without issue for about a year and a half, until today when it caught fire. My animals were unharmed, but I am fearful of using this lamp again. It was plugged into an outlet with only 1 other item plugged into it (16w heat mat).
No, I do not recommend this product.

Amazing product that works perfectly with our hatchling tortoise setup. The miniature size of the bulbs and the fixture has no effect on the amount of light and Uva/Uvb rays it emit. A++ product

Have had this unit for about a year setup to a timer and this morning when it came on it had an electrical failure and sparked and smoked and burned out. THANKFULLY our snake was in her hide otherwise it would have been really bad. This is the second unit to do this. We purchased 2 and this is the second time this has happened. Shame on me to think the first time was an isolated incident.

I bought mine back in November, and it was great for my extra long terrarium! I even have several of the single ones for my narrower/smaller enclosures, they get a little hot on top, but otherwise are great. This one was perfect, for about 6 month. Now it's April, and this morning it must have shorted out, since it started throwing sparks and smoking from the center cover where the bulbs plug in. Thankfully I'm working from home and heard it (sounded like a blender grinding metal) so I was able to turn it off and unplug it within seconds. Thankfully the gecko was in a low hide, so he's okay and nothing caught fire, hate to think of what could have happened had I not been here. Seems like a 6 month life span that ends in "flames" isn't quite worth it.

Can this product heat without adding light? I am trying to grow shittake mushrooms in a closed plastic bin. They require dark and 80 degree temperatures. Note there is plenty of room to suspend it from plastic surfaces.

Using this fixture it with 50 Watt Mini Halogen Bulb day Blue and Tropical Mini Compact Fluorescent Bulb for African fire skink. The temp in the tank is 90 degree but should be 80, do i need to switch to a different bulb?

is this light good for a bearded dragon?
- It is important to create a thermal gradient (a warm side and a cool side) in the cage/enclosure. This can be done with an appropriately sized Zilla Heat Mat adhered to the bottom of the tank on one side and proper lighting. Ideal temperatures for Bearded Dragons range from 75-80°F on the cool side and 85-95°F on the warm side. Provide a 100-110 F basking area on the warm side. Bearded Dragons also require UVB lighting to thrive and be healthy. Using a Zilla Heat & UVB Fixture with a Zilla 50W Mini Halogen bulb and a Zilla Desert Series 50 UVB Bulb will provide the correct heat and UVB needed for your Bearded Dragon. Without UVB, Bearded Dragons can develop Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) resulting in deformations and eventual death. Make sure to place the light over the side with the heat mat to help create that warm side of the thermal gradient. Spot clean the enclosure for urates, feces and uneaten food at least twice per week. Every 3 months, remove all substrate in order to clean and disinfect the tank and décor.

Does each socket have it's own switch? Or is it a single switch that turns both bulbs on at the same time? I want to operate the two sockets independently of each other.

Has anyone ever had these get hot enough to melt plastic? askig because i live in a super airid area and have to cover the screen with plastic in most of it.
- They do get hot enough to melt plastic. Mine has melted the plastic rim around my tank a little.
