For any pet, having a well-balanced diet is important. And while there is a variety of over-the-counter foods you can consider, they might need something more specific. Vet recommended dog foods are formulated to help manage or treat medical conditions many pets live with. If you believe your canine could benefit from a therapeutic diet, have your veterinarian examine and diagnose them. With proper guidance, they can provide a prescription dog food that will be most helpful for their condition.
Yes, prescription dog foods require a prescription from your vet in order to purchase them. These specialized dog food formulas are often used to help treat diseases and medical conditions such as allergies, bladder stones, diabetes, kidney problems, and more. Talk to your vet if you think your pup might benefit from prescription dog food.

Our dog is diabetic and diagnosed with Cushing disease he currently eats Hill Prescription I/d is there a lessor expensive food e can give him?
My senior poodle had diarrhea and vet placed her on w/d, she has never been overweight and now with this new food she has lost an alarming amount of weight and is very weak How can I transition her to a healthier food and which one would I buy?.
My vet Recommend Hill’s prescription diet for for 14lb dog who is overweight. Is there another more affordable option for her ?
RE: DOG FOOD My dog is eating Hill's science diet 7+ Active Longevity Small Bites (chicken meal, rice & Barley recipe) for years. But I found out Hill's is recalling their dog foods recently and I am worrying the dog food my dog eating now also have the problems. Should I change other brands OR I cook chicken breast with carrot and broccoli for her instead? or other foods you recommend? She had pancreatitis 2 times and consulted the vet and was told she cannot eat too much oily food.
Recently my vet suggested changing my Golden Doodles food from Blue Buffalo Freedom Chicken recipe to ZD Hills Prescription Diet due to reoccurring ear infections and licking of paws. She thought a digestive and allergy issue. Is there a comparable brand or food that may be a better fit? Although our Blue Buffalo is pricing, this price point for the ZD is not attainable for us to continue. She spoke of hydrolized protein being important but it's not economical either. Thank you!

What should I feed a diabetic 10 year old dog who is grain, rice and chicken intolerant?
I want to be sure that my 1 year old Parson Russell Terrier is getting the best food. He has skin sensitivity. My vet prescribed Royal Canin Skin Sensitivity. It costs a fortune. A friend who works for a vet told me that her dog( who also has skin sensitivity) was prescribed Purina Pro Plan.. It also doesn’t list grains on the Royal Canin. I want to make sure it isn’t grain free. My last dog died from cardiomyopathy and CHF at 7 years old. Advice Please??
