ACANA foods are made exclusively by Champion Petfoods.
While there are many differences between ACANA and ORIJEN, both diets reflect the belief that it is important to create Biologically Appropriate foods from Fresh Regional Ingredients.
In general, ORIJEN products would contain a higher amount and wider variety of meat ingredients, ranging from 85-90% meat ingredients while ACANA contains between 50-75% meat ingredients depending on the diet. ORIJEN would also feature an increased protein level and lower carbohydrate content.
ACANA has both grain-free and grain-inclusive options.

Hi, I have a female Yorkshire terrier (3.5kg, 11 years) recently diagnosis with CKD early stage 1. My question is: I changed his kibble to Acana Wild Prairie when she was 8 years old until 6 months algo that I changed it to another one from my veterinary and now I'm worried if the high protein in Acana (35%) caused the CKD the 3 years that I gave ver Acana. Also, I'm worried about the lawsuit of heavy metals, can you also tell me if that os false? Please, I want to know if Acana caused her CKD
I'm wanting to cut down on my dogs calories. Right now I'm feeding Acana singles which have 392 calories per cup I'm considering switching to natural balance lid fish formula because the food has 350 calories per cup. I personally think Acana is better but I don't want her to be hungry if I need to decrease it. Should I switch or stick with Acana?
My dog is on Acana singles right now and she has put on some weight. Is royal canin mini weight control a good diet? I prefer Acana but is royal canin still ok? Why or why not?
I can't get ahold of Acana light and fit in the USA and my dog has been gaining weight on Acana singles. Should I reduce the food or switch to natural balance fish formula for lower calories?
What's a better quality brand natural balance or both Acana and Fromm? I'm considering using either just natural balance L.I.D. Or both Acana singles and Fromm? what would you do and why? Please explain your answer. Thanks!
How much crude protein should my dog eat.? The food from fromm has 24%. I want to switch his food to acana. It has 29%. Is it too much protein. Acana crude fiber is 6% whole fromm is 3.5%.
Do I need to add fish oil or probiotics to Acana foods? i noticed they already include this in their food in balanced amounts. The omega 3:6 ratio is 1:2.5 in the Acana foods, is this ok or is fish oil good to add?
What's a better food Acana singles or Natural Balance l.i.d.? My dog does well on both but seems to do particularly well on the natural balance. I thought Acana was better so I'm confused to why she does better on the natural balance? Is natural balance still a good brand, why or why not? Thanks!
My three year old cavalier king charles has been eating acana lamb for almost 2 years. Now our vet suggested us to eat pro plan salmon and said acana is no good for her kidneys since she is a less active dog. I have been doing some research comparing the brands. It seems like pro plan has many chemicals in it. I would really appreciate it if you could help me to find the best choice.
My dog had been showing signs of mild itching and scratching and I'm planning to put her on Zyrtec but she's currently on Acana singles which I really like. She was previously on natural balance venison. Do you think it's ok to see how she does with the Zyrtec before switching back to natural balance venison? I prefer Acana singles because it has more protein and I like the brand better overall. thanks!
My 11 year old female cat has very early kidney disease. Vet recommended Science Hills G/D prescribed food. My cat is currently on Acana and Origen which seems to be the healthiest available. Vet is trying to limit sodium and phosphorus intake but Science Hills G/D has so much by products and it's highly processed but slightly lower on sodium and phosphorus than Acana. Do you recommend the switch to slow down kidney disease? Thank you
How can you differentiate between food allergies and environmental allergies? My dog has mild itching and scratching but no other symptoms. Any idea what kind of allergy this is? She's on Acana singles right now but has been on natural balance venison with good luck as well as Zyrtec and Benadryl. I'm planning to start her back up on the Zyrtec again. Wondering if I should be thinking about switching her food or not. I do prefer Acana singles if given the choice.
