A great way to provide physical and mental exercise while bonding with your dog is with some fun rounds of tug-of-war. But before playtime starts, it’s important to have the right dog pull toy when tugging with your pup. You need a tough and durable dog toy that is size-appropriate and gentle on your pet’s teeth.
Dog rope toys can often be a good tug-of-war dog toy option for most pups. Just don’t let them chew the toy unsupervised or leave it lying around as an option to play with without you.
If your dog is an aggressive chewer, you may want to look for an alternative to a rope chew toy for your pup. Heavy chewers can tear off strings from the rope, which they could then ingest, causing a potential choking hazard. Tough and durable rubber tug toys are a more suitable option for pups with these chew habits.
To have a successful tug-of-war playtime with your pup, you’ll need a few things:
The right toy Make sure you have a durable dog tug toy that is appropriate for your pet. They should be able to comfortably hold it in their mouth without any risk of it being too small or too delicate for play.
Plenty of space Play with your pup in an area that doesn’t have a lot of clutter or distractions.
Just a few rules Teach your dog cues like “drop it” to give you the toy back. Also, take breaks if your pup is getting overly excited or aggressive.
When you and your pup are ready for playtime, shop for dog tug toys online or at your neighborhood Petco Pet Care Center. Choose Curbside Pickup for savings.

I'm struggling to find toys that are fun and suitable for my 9 month old gsd pup. I have a kong, a kong ring and a couple of rope toys. He seems to like the kong for a little and the rope toys are fun for tug of war. I have children with stuffed animals and I don't want him to attribute those to chew toys if I get puppy toys that looked like stuffed animals...Also for chew time are Bully sticks the safest/best thing I can give him or do you have any recommendations for that as well?
Question on bones and chews: Which can harm teeth (canines mainly) Bully sticks Retriever Rawhide (no knots at ends) Antlers (chew with back teeth and rarely) Nylabone Petsafe Wood Chew
Whenever we play tug of war with Jasper (his favorite game, we play with a rope) there ends up being blood on the rope. He is losing teeth which we assume are his baby teeth, so would that be why? We don't play rough, usually I just hold on the other end and he pulls.
What should i do if my dog ate a long piece of rope from my mop
My puppy loves chewing on wood, and all the chew toys that I buy for him that are wood type he chews through in two days. Is there any wood type heavy duty toys for him?
my dog ate about three inches of a rope chew toy. She is a 30lb pitt/chow mix. What do I do? Thanks
Hello, my dog is a 2 year old German Shepherd, Boxer, Rottweiler, Chow Chow mix, (that's a mouthful!) and he destroys every toy we give him! He has never chewed on furniture, (even as a puppy) or clothes or shoes. But we've purchased every toy under the sun and he still rips them to shreds! We've gotten indestructible toys like, fire hose toys, Kong toys, etc. We gave him a thigh bone from a cow and he broke it with one chomp. Is there something better? Or do we just replace toys? Thank you.
My 3 year old pitbull is chewing all our blankets in the house. What can I do to get her to stop? I have already tried substituting it with a toy and trying to get her to play with her rope. I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
I am looking for a heavy duty retractable Leah’s to use for my corgi because she chewed through the other one I had. Need something that she can not chew through and still be retractable. Any suggestion?
Could you recommend a good brand of toys, treats or bones for puppies who are teething?
My cat only likes toys with some type of string but then he chews thru them and won’t play with them anymore. What type of toys would be best?
My 7 month old dog ate a portion of his dog rope should I induce vomiting
