Limited ingredient diets come with one major benefit - pet parents are able to identify exactly what goes into their dog's body and avoid any specific ingredients. While a suitable diet for many dogs, LID diets can also be great for dogs with food sensitivities.

Science Diet is an excellent food but as you have noticed their over the counter foods typically don't have fish. They do have a prescription diet with fish but it can be expensive. I included a couple links to a couple different types of food that contain Salmon. https://www.chewy.com/purina-pro-plan-focus-adult-sensitive/dp/128666 https://www.chewy.com/purina-one-smartblend-sensitive/dp/37688 Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

I'm sorry to hear Winston is having these issues! A good first step is to schedule a vet visit for him to rule out any underlying conditions that could be causing his symptoms in addition to food. Your vet can also work with you on a food trial if it is suspected that a certain ingredient is the cause for the problem. For general sensitive stomach/skin, Science Diet has a formulation that addresses both. You want to make sure to gradually change the diet over a period of 7-9 days to avoid additional stomach upset, gradually adding in more of the new food. It can also take up to two months for a food trial to see results.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, using the dry and canned Hill's Science diet for sensitive stomach and skin is fine. Some animals though do not tolerate canned food as well as they do dry. I wish you the best!
From what you describe food allergy seems to be the cause. Hypoallergenic diets (Hill's or Royal Canin) or exclusion diet (I would use the diet your local vet has more experience with) can be all good options. It is important to continue with the same diet at least for 6 weeks without giving anything else before switching to another diet. Peas or lentils are absolutely fine and actually peas are often used as soruce of carbohydrates in exclusion diets.
Hello. There are quite a few dog foods that are labeled for sensitive skin. Hill's makes a very good one that you can get in all better pet stores or at Tractor supply. Rather than coconut oil, the fish oils are generally considered better for skin issues. I would stop the coconut oils & start a fish oil supplement. The best one is Nordic Naturals for pets available on-line. If the itching continues, then you may be dealing with a food or even inhalant allergen. You will need the help of your veterinarian to work through this as we do have excellent allergy medications for dogs, but they do require a prescription to use. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
