No More Balding Chihuahua!

My husband and I switch all our pups over to this food, mixed with Hill's Science Diet canned beef stew. Our fur babies took to it easily, and after about 4-5 months we started noticing NEW hair growth on our 9 yr old chihuahua Lucy. Lucy was diagnosed with alopecia at 2 years old, and has been steadily losing hair off her back and tail since. We've purchased special sunblock and clothing to keep her bare back from too many freckles, too much sun damage. But now, we are thrilled to see new full and healthy hair growing back. We've done nothing different, besides switching to Hill's Science Diet and we thank them and give them credit for this phenomenal turnaround!

Overpriced Gimmick food ingredients are bad and unhealthy. This ain’t even a top 50 dry dog food in the market let alone the misleading #1 veterinary recommended food they claim to be. Stay away people RESEARCH INGREDIENTS ONLY THING THAT MATTERS

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. In June of 2023, we changed the formulation of this product to a Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe. If you are currently receiving the Chicken Meal & Rice Recipe, that is the old formulation which we are no longer manufacturing. We offer a 100% guarantee on our products; please contact the retailer if you would like to return this purchase. Hill's Pet Nutrition

I only give it 4 stars because it pricey food, and today's economy is making it tough to buy.

Yes, I recommend this product.

What is the difference in the Small Paws vs Small Bites? The Bites says it is real Chicken and the Paws is Chicken Meal -- other than that what is difference and how do you determine between the two?

  1.  Not to sure. Maybe bc one is for puppies and one is for adults. And I believe the food is bigger

There are two sizes in the Hill's Science Diet dog food for small breed; i.e. 4.5 pounds and 15.5 pounds. It takes awhile for my small dog to finish up the 15.5 pounds. If I continue to buy the larger bag, would the dog food get stale?

  1. The food once the bag is open should be consumed in 3 to 4 wk for best quality and it should be kept IN THE BAG you bought it in >tightly closed, kept in a cool area away from humidity. You can place the sealed bag of food in a sealed plastic container to keep out humidity & moisture BUT never empty the food out of the bag it came in into a plastic container as it will go rancid faster..Only buy the size bag of food that your dog will be able to finish in 4 wks..

My senior tiny chihuahua dog has missing and other horrible teeth. She needs a softer kibble or soft food. Will this be soft enough?

  1. Add a bit of water.  I rescued a very old- pom. Vet removed most of her very bad teeth, but she has enough teeth left that that food is managed by her without any water added. She eats it only on one side of her mouth.  The best thing is to buy the small size--and try it- without and then with a little water to soften it.  Get the bad teeth removed- they may hurt your pup as they are.

I havea poddle mix that's 31lbs. The adult size bites are to hard for him to chew. He can chew it but it takes a long time and he get disinterested. His teeth are healthy and strong no issues there. Can I change to the small bites of small dogs instead.

  1. I have a 15-year old afghan hound. I feed her Small Paws Chicken Meal and Rice for exactly this same reason. I also mix either a fresh product or canned i/d Digestive Care (stress) with the dry and add warm water. She maintains her weight and appetite, and her stool is good. I'm seeing signs of early dementia, but she still knows when it's dinner time, and stands by my side while I prepare her food. I think you will be happy feeding the smaller bites, and hope your results are as good as mine.

Says " Protein: Min. 20.0 %" What is the MAX Protein in this food?

  1. Thank you for your question. The protein level in this food is 24.9% on a dry matter basis. Hill's Pet Nutrition

I've been buying the smaller bags because they seal/I'm nervous that the food won't stay as fresh... I have a food container but I don't feel like it works that well. Any suggestions on how to keep this food fresh for several months?

  1. Try storing what you think your dog will consume in a week in a small plastic or glass container. Then store the rest in a larger one that will only be opened once a week to refill the smaller one thus keeping the food fresh :)

what if you sign up for auto delivery and then need to change delivery date. not sure if she will need it again in i mo.

  1. Thank you for your question. You can make changes to your Auto Delivery item(s) via phone, email or chat.

random question

  1. The Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed Dog Food Dry has 4.6 cups per pound. A 15.5 lb. bag would have around 71.3 cups of food. Thank you for reaching out to us!

Is this item 9096? UPC 5274290960

  1. I have scheduled automatic delivery of this dog food for my daughter. I order two bags at a time to get free shipping. You can set your own schedule of delivery. She was having the same problem with availability.
