Cats can make fantastic pets for people who live alone and big families alike. They can be loyal, friendly and low-maintenance—among their other great qualities. And since they make such great companions, they deserve high-quality care—from fun toys and wholesome food to comfortable beds and blankets. Show your friendly feline the love they deserve by giving them a comfortable pet mat where they can sleep.
A cat heating pad can be a wonderful comfort accessory as long as it is used correctly. If you decide to introduce a heating pad to your pet, make sure to place it in an area where they have the option to leave it if they’re not comfortable. We don’t recommend using one in a confined space like a crate as it can create a dangerous area. Most pet mats that act as a type of temperature-controlled bed are designed with a hard wrap around the electrical cord to help prevent your cat from chewing on it.
Like many animals, cats love to be warm, and a heated pet mat can be a great solution. Things like space heaters and other individual heaters can pose a threat to your kitty because of exposed wires. Even fireplaces and wood-burning stoves can put your cat at risk because of the smoke they produce.
Not all mats are alike. Some cooling pet mats are made with a specialized gel, while others are made with water, air, or both. For example, some will keep your pet cool by using a pressure-activated substance that keeps your cat cool by absorbing their body heat. This particular type of gel chills and “recharges” when your feline gets off the mat—making for a refreshing and comfortable surface for when they return.
A cat cooling pad that uses cold water or air also absorbs a percentage of your pet’s body heat and redistributes it over the mat.
However, if you’re looking for something simpler, consider an elevated cot that allows air to circulate underneath more easily.
If your cat uses a litter box, we highly suggest getting a litter box mat to place underneath. At Petco, many of the litter mats we carry feature a nonstick underside to help prevent it from sliding all over when your feline uses the bathroom. The built-in grooves help trap leftover litter granules stuck to your kitty’s paws which can keep your floor much cleaner.
Depending on the brand and variety you choose, there can be different ways to clean your cat litter mat—machine washable mats are usually preferred by pet parents to help prevent the spread of bacteria. Consult the user guide that comes with your pet mat for proper washing instructions.
To keep your cat’s feeding area as clean as possible, we suggest getting a placemat. At Petco, we carry many placemat designs depending on your kitty’s temperament and mealtime behavior—like non-slip, easy-to-wipe down and dishwasher-safe varieties.

Hi! I have two cats who I adopted together as kittens, who have ALWAYS peed outside the litterbox (poop inside), on any material on the floor, though we have 2 older cats who go in the boxes. On a whim, I bought weewee pads and placed them where the cats had been going on the floor, and I realized that they must have been fostered as babies with pads (grrrr). I would like to get some area rugs and want to know how to keep them off!
My cats pad is hanging off best treatment please
Is their anything i can do to get my cat to stop kneading my bed constantly buying new bed covers
My cat will not stop scratching our new stair carpet. He did it with the old ine too. We have posts and mats for him but he prefers the stairs. Anything we can do to stop him?
Fraying front paw pads!
Can a cat who is used to a hard floor that now lives mainly on carpet develop rug burns that cause his carpal pads to bleed?
My cats chew and shred paper and cardboard incessantly. Help!
My cat has bumps on her chin we think it is chin acne and we bought these pads but they backfired. Lizzy hates them and will run. We brought her to the vet but it was no help! We don’t have the money for another vet trip! Help
Are cat claw covers approved by vets???
Are matts close to the skin dangerous to my cat's health? I have tried to comb out and the 2 are not growing out. I can't afford a groomer. On his belly.
Is there a good brand of wee-wee pads? Money is not an issue, but my Buddy is being trained to potty in and out of the house, but these pads are not good at all. Is there a pad out there recommended above another that will hold a good amount of pee? HELP
I recently bought a humidifier because both my cat and I have been a little dry and congested this winter. I know the humidifier itself isn’t bad for her but it comes with little Vick’s pads that are scented and aide with symptoms and sleep. Are these bad for my cat? They would basically be diffused and released as part of the steam. Also is my lavender essential oil spray safe for me to use with her around? Pictures are of the ingredients of two different scents of pads and of my oil spray.
