A healthy Amazon won't be happy sitting on the floor of their habitat, and providing them with an assortment of perches is vital for their mental and physical health. Perches that vary in texture and diameter will help encourage good foot health and some made of sandstone or concrete can even help naturally keep your bird's nails trimmed. Free-standing perches and play stands are also a great way for your bird to feel comfortable while socializing outside of their habitat.
Perches should be 3/4 to 1" in diameter.
Multiple perches in a variety of diameters and textures will help prevent arthritis and encourage muscle maintenance in the feet.
Some perches may be specially made with a texture such as sand or concrete that will help your bird naturally file down their nails as they use it.

What toys are the best for parakeets
Can I take a shower with a Amazon Parrot? What temperature range water is safe? Do I need to give them a cuttle cone? What to chew one? How often do I have to take them for beak/wing/nail trim? What size cage? It would probably be out a lot because I am home most every day. Only gone on Fridays. I want a bird that can do almost everything with me and not too small. About a medium bird? Any recommend birds? I’ve never had a bird but I know a few people that have birds. Right food? (See pic) thx!
My 8month old alexandrine parakeet is losing his leg grip while climbing height
Is there a type of bird cage for parakeets. We have two that are in a basic counter top cage but I wanted to get a bigger one. I was told not to get one with dome top. Is this correct?
I've been doing research before I get my cockatiel and one topic I've seen a lot of controversy on is sanding perches. Both on whether to use one or not and where to use it. If you advised to get one where do you advise me to put it? I saw some people say use it as your feeding perch so that the bird is forced to use that and other people say leave it elsewhere and the bird will use it as they choose?
Our 34 yr old amazon parrot is having issues with her feet. How would she be evaluated to check for arthritis. She is having a bit of trouble staying on her perches at times. She falls to the bottom of the cage but I also see her climb around her cage upside down quite often daily. Thanks for the help.
Hello i have a parrot with bald head and chest feathers are fluffy
Noticed our parrot "Beanie" is growing unsteady. He slips off his perches daily and seems to be favoring his left side, meaning perhaps he tweaked his left leg or foot. Maybe arthritis or pain in the leg. What can we do to narrow that down and help our bird.
My parakeet is stretching its neck with it's beak open repeatedly for no apparent reason. It's feces have a green discoloration and it also is spending lots of time at the bottom of it's cage
How would you know what type of food is best for your Budgie? Also what should I always keep a millet stick in their cage?
My female cockateil has green stain near it's vent. I bought it 2 days back
It is possible we could be taking in my friends two parakeets. Where do I start? I want to know how to care for them properly before possible owning them. Do you have any tips, tricks, must know things?
