Do you have any tips on calming my dog during storms without a crate he's not scared during storms he gets protective and barks at the thunder
Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco! You can always try the ThunderShirt which can be purchased at your local Pet Supplies Store or Amazon. It has mixed reviews, but may be worth a try! Calming chewables with L-Theanine in them can help as well. Loco is scared of thunder I've tried the thunder t-shirt but it doesn't help plus they are expensive. What can I give loco just to keep calm he weighs 9lbs ... What other options is there
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is commonly known as noise phobia. Actually one of my own dogs suffers from this so I will also tell you based on my experience. These types of behaviors can be modified with the help of dog behaviorists who specialize in these types of conditions. These specialists are hard to find as there are not many in the country. In my case, the thunder shirt helped my dog to the point that she acts pretty much normal with it on. There are medications like Trazodone that can help reduce anxiety. This is something that you can obtain from your veterinarian and is likely going to help reduce the anxiety caused by the thunder. Good luck and have a great day!

Does the thundershirt really help dogs that are terrified of fireworks
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Some dogs respond to the thundershirt better than others, but in general, it does work very well at easing tension and anxiety in most dogs who wear the wrap. If Riley's anxiety is very pronounced during fireworks, you may want to talk to his veterinarian about anti-anxiety medications that can be prescribed. Calming chewables that have L-Theanine in them can also help as well at easing tension. I have linked an example of the calming chewables below. Compression wear such as the ThunderShirt may help. Sedatives may help as well. There is a newer drug called Sileo that is specifically for noise aversion. You will need a prescription from your vet for it though. Other drug free alternatives include pheromone products such as the Adaptil collar or DAP plug in diffuser and Rescue Remedy for Pets.
