Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about your dog. I think Hill's Science Diet is a great food. I'm not sure why your vet would recommend a grain free food especially since with information coming out about grain free diets and an increase in dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs. The FDA is investigating this link. I never recommend grain free unless the dog have a proven allergy to grains, which is very rare. I personally see no reason to switch to a grain free food but you could feed her a senior dog food for the lower calories. Hill's has an excellent senior dog food. I hope this helps!

You're in luck! Hill's make a food called Metabolic + Mobility that may be perfect for your dogs. I would talk with your veterinarian about it to make sure. Here is the food I mentioned: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=31543
Hill’s is great, don’t believe the horror stories. It’s one of the foods I highly recommend. They have veterinary nutritionists on staff to make sure the food is balanced and safe for dogs to eat. I would keep Pepper on this food.
Thats funny! Most dogs don't want to eat the Z/D! I don't think they have a food that tastes exactly like the Z/D at non-prescription price but you could try any of the science diet dog foods - all of which are very palatable and she may like. For just a general food, I like science diet adult for dogs over 1. Once she is over 7 years old, I recommend to switch her to the senior diet. It is perfectly safe for her to eat the z/d long term although that would be expensive for you. I hope this helps!
You can feed him a prescription diet such as Hills j/d Mobility/Joint Care. You can also feed him any good brand complete dog food for senior small breeds. I like to feed Iams or Hill's or Purina ProPlan.
