It's ok to use to clean the eyes but if one eye is tearing there is probably something wrong with it, possibly an infection, and this will need to be treated with a different product which only a vet can prescribe.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! If an infection is present in the eye (discharge, squinting of the eye, rubbing or pawing at eye, redness, swelling), Andy will need antibiotic eye drops from his veterinarian. You can try sterile saline eye drops for cats which are available at your local pet store, which can help soothe the eye but this will likely not help with an infection. Often times recurrent eye infections in cats is caused by the feline herpes virus. Giving lysine powder on top of their food or paste once or twice daily (I like the product called Viralys) can help decrease viral replication which can help lessen the recurrent eye infections. I hope this helps!

That would likely be safe as long as the ear drum is normal. Sometimes infections if the ear can cause the ear drum to tear. EpiOtic ear cleaner is another option that is safe and should be ok even if the ear drum is slightly damaged.

If the eye discharge is clear then an infection is not present, so you don't have to use the eye gel (erythromycin). Instead you should use an anti-viral supplement such as Lysine gel/powder from your local pet store or vet clinic. Cats are prone to viral infections which can cause watery eye discharge and reddish discharge. The use of antibiotics is only needed when a secondary infection is also present. Lysine powder/gel can be given throughout Richard's lifespan to help boost her immune system and help ward off future viral infections (i.e. herpesvirus).

Hello. I would be very cautious about using the Efex for such a long period of time. Our veterinary formulary says the maximum use in cats should not exceed 30 days, but even at this time frame, you can still wind up with side effects from the long term use of any flouroquinolone, or run into a problem with antibiotic resistance. If the otitis interna was definitively diagnosed by radiography & myringotomy & this antibiotic was chosen based on a culture & sensitivity, then I would administer the antibiotic with frequent rechecks. Otherwise, an MRI may be necessary to confirm the condition. This may be the antibiotic to use, but 42 days is a bit worrisome. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
