Feral Cat Loves This

Kitty22

I got this heating pad for my feral cat’s house. Although she hangs around, she’s still very skittish. It took her awhile to get used to the texture but once she realized it produces heat, she sleeps on it & comes out to greet me in the morning from her house. I know she’s a feral but I feel more at peace knowing she has a warm place to spend the night.

Our cat loves this heated pad. He’s an outdoor cat and I wondered how to attract him to the pad. No worries. He quickly found it and spends hours just enjoying it.

Decent product

Works as stated. Not sure how waterproof the underpaid is. My dog peed on it and I wiped it clean but there is a clearly stained area from the urine despite cleaning it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hi AbbyDoggy, the Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heated Dog Bed does feature a waterproof heating pad. The outer material may absorb color, but the urine will not soak through to the inside of the bed. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/khpets.png" alt="khpets" title="khpets" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" /> <!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

This is our second heating pad. We have been feeding a feral cat for over 10 years. We already had the house. The cat loves the house and now spends every cold night in it. The pad provides just the right amount of heat.

My cats LOVE these mats!

I am now the happy owner of 4 Lectro-Soft mats, one is outside in a Kitty Tube for a feral cat, and 3 are indoors for my house cats. The cats love these mats, they get warm but never hot, the air inside (adjustable) makes them nice and soft, the faux sheepskin covers are great and easy to keep clean, and I love that the mats don't heat up until something is on them. Really great product! I also have the small heat mats for my two K&H window perches, I recommend those as well.

Feral Kitty Comfort

R & M

Having always had animals, it’s hard not to look out and care for the homeless animals! We full time RV, so everywhere we go, the animals seem to find us! Apparently we are running a pet motel and the wife and I enjoy it! With winter rapidly approaching, nights are down into the 30’s so we needed to come up with a solution for Big Boi, our male stray that comes twice a day to eat! Now with a large tote turned into a shelter with a heated bed for the cold nights! So far Big Boi seems to be enjoying the extra comfort and warmth! This product seems well made and should get several seasons out of it!

I purchased mine for cats and they love these heated bed…..I put these in a canvas A-Frame bed. You should order additional fitted covers as they do get really dirty from the outdoor cats.

Questions

1 - 10 of 51 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Can this be used under a guinea pig cage?

  1. The pad I bought only comes on when our cats step on it.   But it only gives a moderate amount of heat , but yes I would think it would work for guineas if they’re cold.

Is it safe to use this heating pad on a carpeted floor?

  1. I do. And have for years with no problems. Both flat & shaggy carpets.

Can I use this inside?

  1. Yes. I have one each (one small, one medium) for my two senior indoor only cats. I lay a towel over the cover and it still provides enough warmth to comfort them.

I'd like to get this for outdoor strays but my outlet is in a weird spot. Is it safe to put in a storage bin and use an extension cord to plug it into?

  1. Hope this answers your questions.  We have our “heating pads”  in a dog igloo and the other in a dog crate.  The manufacturer says no extension cords.  We’ve never needed one.  You could probably ask a friendly electrician.

I already called Greensburg Store and they do not have Medium Size 19x24 K&H Lectro Soft Outdoor Heated Pet Bed. Connor the person I talked with suggested asking if any other Petco Store has them.

  1. If you have a feed store by you they might have one. I ordered mine from Petco.com

Can I use an extension cord with this item or must it be plugged directly into the wall socket?

  1. Yes but be sure it is hidden from pet and in dry area. The cord attached to the heating area is wrapped in a wire covering to prevent from chewing. The cord is not a ground (3 prong) plug so I believe a heavy duty regular extension cord would work just fine. I would check it regularly to make sure it remains safe. It keeps pet comfortably warm but not too hot.

Can I keep it plugged in all night? How long can it be plugged in for safely?

  1. I have had both of mine plugged in for several months already this year without any issues. The heavy duty armored cords has handled everything the dogs can do to them. My first pad went thru the whole winter plugged in last year and is still working fine again this year.

My dog sometimes gets seizures and pees himself, will it get ruined if wet? Is there a way to wash it?

  1. I suggest asking the manufacturer but…. The pad comes with a fleece cover that is not waterproof. Instructions say not to cover the pad with anything except the fleece cover, which “breathes.” Pad has sensors to warm with pet’s weight. If a cover does not “ breathe,” then it could overheat and burn out. It’s also an electoral product. So it shouldn’t get wet. The pad material is a thick, tightly woven nylon fabric, so it can be cleaned with a damp cloth, but putting liquid on it is a bad idea. Please call K&H to ask. They are helpful and may have a suggestion or solution for you. Good luck. The cat loves the pad!

can this be put on top of dog bed

  1. From the enclosed instructions: Place pad directly on a hard, flat surface in the home or inside a dog house or kennel. Area chosen should be sheltered out of direct rain or snow. Do not cover the pad with blankets or materials other than a fleece K&H lectro cover (included). If the pad is used in an enclosure, be sure your pet has the option of getting off the pad (i.e., half of the enclosure should be pad free). There are more instructions.

Can I use a heavy duty outdoor extension cord with the lectro-soft outdoor heated pad? I'm having trouble with the cord not reaching the electrical outlet outside the house where I want to plug it in.

  1. MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product. For more information on MET safety testing, please visit their website at www.metlabs.com.
