Why is tinsel harmful to cats? What holiday decor is unsafe?

Cats and holiday decorations don’t always mix well. As curious animals, cats tend to explore any new additions to their environment and see many of these shiny, new objects as fun toys. Tinsel is the ultimate shiny object for a cat to play with, which often ends with subsequent ingestion. If ingested, tinsel poses a serious risk of causing an intestinal blockage, also known as a linear foreign body obstruction. This life-threatening surgical emergency can easily be avoided by keeping tinsel out of homes with cats. Other holiday decorations can pose problems to particularly curious cats, such as strings of lights that some cats may try to chew, decorative ornaments or snow globes that look like toys to bat around, or poisonous plants, such as mistletoe or poinsettias. When decorating for the holidays, try to look at your house from your cat’s point of view and keep decorations that look like enticing toys packed away.

My budgie is fluffed up, eating a lot, kicking food, and has a green beak. Is she sick?

In the second image, she definitely looks unthrifty and ill. Without a physical exam though, it is difficult to say for sure what is going on with her. If you can, transition from an all seed diet to a pelleted diet which is more balanced. Brands include Harrison's, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or KayTee Exact. You can still offer a small amount of a fortified seed mix as well as fresh fruits and vegetables to round out the diet.

Why is my new adopted cat not eating, drinking, or using litter box?

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. From your description, it sounds like Poppet is just getting comfortable with her environment. New environments / surroundings can be quite stressful for animals. This may take some time but I see that she is eating some food, so hopefully this will change. I would continue to provide plenty of food and water for her and give her a nice quiet place to hide. Feliway products may help calm her and make her more comfortable as well. Feliway products can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. I hope this helps! My budgie is turning one! Are seed treats safe? What other snacks?

Happy birthday, Peko! I'm not entirely sure what smackers and petsile fruits are, but they look to be some sort of seed treat made especially for birds, so it should be OK to give. If you'd like to give the birds a special treat, some veggies such as salad greens, berries, fruits like a little apple or pear, etc can all be given as a fun snack as an alternate option. Other items such as spray millet are another fun treat most budgies enjoy. Make sure you are giving any treats in moderation and still feeding their regular diet to ensure they stay healthy and do not have any GI upset.
