I have a medium sized Beagle Hound Mix and she's about 1-2 years old. I wish this gate was higher because she could jump over it. I don't have a fenced in yard and this would have been perfect on the deck so she could get some exercise and sun without me having to take her on a leash. It looks great. I hope you get ones that are for a medium/tall dog. Thank you.

The gate is very well designed, and was super easy to install in 5 minutes with just a screw gun and the provided Allen wrench. It looks great and works really well. The latching mechanism is a cinch to open one-handed but is very secure for keeping the dogs in. I have already ordered another one to allow me to keep the dogs corralled on the deck when mowing the backyard. Great product, I'm very happy with it!

I needed a pet gate for a wide opening on my deck outdoors. This gate is metal and solid. I purchased the wide extension also. The installation instructions were good and clear. I have used Cardinal gates before, and I have always been pleased with their quality.

- The hardware that comes with the Stairway Special Outdoor Gate comes with stainless steel hardware. The stainless steel hardware helps the gate from rusting in place. it is also able to take on the humidity of the outdoors.

What type of latch does this gate have? There is no photo of the latch or model number available. The Cardinal website shows a stair latch or an auto-latch.
- This has the same latch as the Stairway Special Latch. It has two spindles that you can grab with two fingers and push down and pull up. You can see a tutorial here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fJ7eTOePbA

Can this gate be attached to vinyl deck fencing at the opening at the top of the stairs?
- So long as there is a stud or a wood backing behind the vinyl deck fencing that the Stairway Special Outdoor Gate can be mounted on, then there shouldn't be a problem. If the gate is installed on vinyl itself with not stud to help hold it up, then it will add a lot of weight onto the vinyl and you risk damaging the gate and your fencing.

I have a 48 inch opening. Will this gate work? I can’t find the width on the description.
- The Stairway Special Outdoor Gate measures at 42.5" by itself. For it to fit the width you need, you would need a 10.5" extension along with the gate.

How tall is the gate? I have a minature poodle and a shitzu terrier.
- The Outdoor Stairway Special is 29 1/2" tall. There is about 2" underneath the gate so going under it will not be a likely option for your pups.

Does this gate slide to open or does the gate swing to open? I need to be able to use the width of the doorway to pass through. If it slides what would be the opening to pass through on a doorway 39" wide?
- The Stairway Special Gate swings to open. The whole gate swings open giving you full access to the width of your doorway.

- The Stairway Special can open in both directions. However, f you do not want it to open in both directions there is a stop bracket included that can be installed on the gate.
