Part of being a pet parent to a hamster, gerbil or other small animal is setting up the perfect tiny home for your little one. From selecting one of the best hamster and gerbil cages and habitats to small animal bedding and even hamster and gerbil toys and habitat accessories, Petco can help you create the most welcoming habitat for your pet.
The most recommended hamster bedding and litter options are often soft or pelleted beddings made from paper materials. This type of bedding is typically absorbent and comfortable and can help control odor better than many other options. When you’re picking hamster, gerbil or guinea pig bedding, make sure that it’s fluffy, comfortable and easy for your pet to burrow.
While there are many options for small animal bedding, cat litter could potentially cause problems as bedding. If you do use cat litter, it should be unscented, a non-clumping formula and be topped off with a lot of soft bedding for your hamster or gerbil. If your pet accidentally ingests a clumping litter, it could be very dangerous, so these litters should be avoided altogether.
In addition to soft paper pelleted beddings, you can use Timothy Hay and some types of wood shavings as bedding. Aspen shavings can be a good, comfortable choice for bedding, while cedar shavings are typically not and may cause nasal and bronchial irritation for your small pet. Plain paper or cardboard may be suitable in a pinch for short-term use but are usually too coarse and uncomfortable for the long term.
Pet parents looking for the right small animal bedding for their hamster, gerbil or guinea pig can shop for various options online or at your neighborhood Petco Pet Care Center.

I am setting up a new habitat for my 2 sibling gerbils. I want it to be as natural of a habitat as their ancestors in the wild live in. Which substrate would you recommend that would be as natural as they would receive in their desert environment?
Can Guinea pigs use grreat choice pine wood shavings? I see carefresh made a mixture of paper and wood shavings. I'm low on funds this week and I had bought and aired out (for 4 days) grreat choice pine wood for my hamsters. But as I said I'm low on funds and was wondering if just this week I could use the pine wood? I don't want to harm my piggies in anyway.
Hello I have 4 boy guinea pigs and I want ro know what the best bedding cause my oldest piggies hes coughs sometimes like he got something in his throat and money for the vet is expensive and I need to know where can I found a good place for piggies
Can guinea pigs use this type of bedding? Is the bedding dangerous to them?
Is a blanket bedding good for my guinea pigs
I switched my guinea pigs to Kaytee Lavender bedding. They both have food, hay, and water. Two bowls of food, two bottles of water, and two hay containers. They both seem to be chewing on the bedding and I'm worried. Should this be a concern? I'm worried about their digestive system from chewing on the bedding. My girl friend said her guinea does it too when she's bored, could this be why they are chewing it? They share a cage.
I saw many breeders using sawdust or wood mulch for whelping box bedding is it good?
Do you have any suggestions for litter box or harness training. Also, can I use pine shavings for their bedding as it is not a red wood?
I have 2 hamsters. And is there any reason that cause them to actually push away the bedding? My cage is 3 levels. And they tend to push most of the bedding down to level 1 or 2. Why is that so? Is there any posibilities that they dont like the bedding? Should i change the type of bedding?
Hello. Just to ask regarding my hamsters. I have wooden toys in their cage and both hamsters tend to bite on. Is there any chances of injuries like splinters? Should i remove the toys? Both hamsters also tend to dig around with the bedding and move the bedding around. Is there any possibilities that they dont like the type of bedding?
I have a pitbull/bulldog mix that stays outside who is allergic to cedar bedding and pine is there a hypoallergenic bedding for outside animals?
Is this okay to use for my guinea pig? I'm used to the carefresh with the heart and the animals on the front in the picture, but the mostly blue green one I'm nervous about. I don't want Cosmo getting any reactions. Are they the same brand but different packaging?
