For scratches and cuts to open sores from a bug bite or skin irritation, a handy supply of dog bandages is essential for any dog parent. Used in combination with an antiseptic spray, a bandage can help keep a wound clean and also deter your pet from causing further irritation. Petco carries several styles, each designed for a specific type of injury. Bandage types typically include gauze squares and rolls, nonstick pads, and paper and adhesive first-aid tape. Some bandages have a bitter coating to discourage your dog from licking their wounds. Anti-lick sprays are also available for the same purpose. Depending on your dog’s specific injury, your veterinarian might also recommend a hot or cold therapy wrap, medical boot or a dog recovery cone. Speak with your veterinarian for advice about treating your dog’s injury without causing any further irritation.
That depends on the severity of the injury. Petco carries a number of liquid bandage products for dogs intended to help seal and protect minor cuts. We recommend contacting your veterinarian to determine if liquid bandage is a suitable solution for the severity of your pet’s injury.
The answer depends on the specific injury. Consult your veterinarian to determine if one is necessary and instructions on proper application.
Some bandages have a bitter coating to help discourage chewing. You can also use an anti-lick spray. A dog recovery cone may be another option to help prevent your dog from interfering with their bandage.
We recommend following the treatment guidelines set forth by your veterinarian for changing and removing bandages.

We have our dog in a splint for a broken leg, it is his 7th out of 9 weeks. The bandage became too tight around his ankle at some point last night and I was forced to cut it off this morning due to loss of circulation. I am able to rebangage it myself at this point, but am wondering if he needs any drugs to make the swelling go down or if it will reduce on its own through the day?
Our dog got into something and got a 1in cut on Monday. We took him in and he got 5 staples. He was struggling with the cone so we wrapped it with a bandage on and off so that he wouldn’t be miserable. Apparently bandage was too tight and I noticed his paw swelling. I immediately removed bandage and it’s been several hours and it’s going down but I did notice moisture between the paw and it looks kinda weepy. Should I be worried or is this normal bc of the swelling?
Our dog has an open wound on his leg what should we do
My dog got bitten by another dog. He has puncture wounds. He has seen a vet, the vet has administered antibiotics and painkillers for me to give him at home. He was also given a collar to stop him from licking but he really doesn’t like the collar, so I have dressed the wound with a bandage is that ok? Or should it be left totally free? How should I clean the wounds also? His wounds seem to be quite smelly and are oozing. Iv read up on this. Are they draining naturally? I’m not so what’s best!!
I trimmed her nails this morning and I guess cut them too short or cut the same 1 two times because she never stays still for more than 10 seconds and so she busted the nail open and was bleeding but not large amounts or pouring blood so I did the flour and water paste mixture and dipped her paw in it and then put sterile gauze and a bandage around it and she tore the bandage off so I don't know what else to do. What can I do to keep her from busting it open again?
Good Evening, I just noticed that my dogs paw is red on the pads. She is limping like it hurts. It’s only on back paws. I’m in NY visiting from NC. It’s not bleeding just red and irritated. What can I get to relieve her. Should I purchase gauze and ace bandage? Please help!
My dog had a cut between some of her pads on her foot. she wouldn’t stop licking the paw, so we wrapped it up and put neosporin on it. She hasn’t bothered it since. Should we be concerned?
i have a quil who got footblump(advanced)we wanted to clean injured area and use medic. and bandoge but it started bleedeing
My pup has a cut paw pad. It is not bleeding. What can we do to help him? He continues to lick the area and is limping.
What should I do to treat an open wound on my dog?
My dog is limping and she hurt or pulled a ligament, I took her to the vet and gave her shots for the inflammation I wanted to ask you if I'm able to wrap her leg or something?
My dog has a cut on his paw from a few weeks ago. It’s slow healing, but recently became more inflamed and warm to the touch. Does he need antibiotics? Or is topical, over the counter care enough?
