It isn't toxic per se, but it should be used with caution in pets with kidney disease. Kidney disease is an insidious condition because a pet can show no clinical signs until one day they are suddenly "sick". This is because most pets can be asymptomatic until they lose about 75% of kidney function. Once diagnosed, we are already "behind the 8 ball" in treatment. It is likely a combination of all her conditions contributed to her downward spiral, especially at 16 years old. I am sorry for the loss of Tigger. May she rest in peace.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry that Jolly is not feeling well. There is no difference in the active ingredient, an antibiotic, between Velosef syrup vs capsules/tablets. Slight differences in the way the compound is dissolved may be present, but the activity is the same. Most veterinarians prescribe medications based on the animal's weight, so the total dose (total milligrams) needs to be the same no matter the form of the medication. I recommend asking your vet what the total amount of medication is per dose, and ensuring that the same amount is present in either the capsules, tablets, or syrup. I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Clavamox and Convenia are not suitable antibiotics for this type of infection, azithromyacin is a very good option and should solve the problem, if it doesn't i would recommend asking your vet to try Doxycycline or Veraflox next.

This is not the antibiotic of choice for URI in cats, the most suitable antibiotics for this condition at this are are Zhitromax and Veraflox. doxycycline should never be given to a kitten this young and clavamox is usually much less effective for URI in cats.

Usually the antibiotic injection doesn't work very well for these type of upper respiratory infection, i would recommend asking your vet to switch to an oral suspension such as Veraflox or Zhitromax which are much more effective against this condition.
