Hi and thank you for your post on Boop by Petco this afternoon! Tylan powder can be used in cats with IBD, but is not a long term solution for this problem. Tylosin can come in tablet, liquid suspension, or capsule form. IBD symptoms will reappear after stopping the Tylan administration. Prednisolone can help symptoms as well as another antibiotic called Metronidazole, but again, these drugs are not for long term usage. Changing the diet to a novel protein source that is highly digestible can really help IBD patients. Sometimes there is a concurrent food allergy causing the symptoms so it is worth exploring with your veterinarian if a food trial or food allergy screening test is worth doing. High fiber diets can also help as well. Most diets that can help with IBD are prescription diets that are available through your veterinarian. I hope this helps and thanks again for using Boop by Petco!

I'm not aware of any essential oils that would interact with Tylan powder. Dogs can be sensitive to topical essential oils so you may want to be cautious with their use. I personally wonder what it is like for an animal with such a sensitive sense of smell to experience essential oils - this might be more fun for people than pets.

If tylan is not effective in the next 4 days I would recommend to switch to metronidazole and give panacur (commercial name of the worming treatment) to make sure any kind of parasite and bacteria infections are covered. Please discuss all these options with your local vet depending on their suspicion and possible differential diagnosis.

Tylosin is a very specific antibiotics used mainly for tylosin responsive colitis, hopefully this will solve the problem but you will be able to know for sure only after you finish that course of antibiotics that the vet prescribed Winston.
