Sun Seed Bird Food & Treats

My question is this: I have had my new Canary on a 12 and 12 covering of his cage.(12 hrs. uncovered and 12 hrs. covered.)The Breeder told me to do this. I am changing him to Sun-up and Sun-down. I go to sleep quite early, summer and winter, and get up early, before Sun-rise. Especially in the Summer, when days are longer, how do I cover him up at Sun-Down, when I go to bed at 7 - 8 p.m.? About 2 hours Before Sun-down. I get up at 4 - 5 a.m. Before Sun-up. What should my Schedule be for him?

I saw a seed in his nostril, looked like a seed at least. It was just on top and after flying I think it must've fallen out. Is it possible the seed could've gone inside, does his nose look normal?
