You can add in a commercial pelleted mix. Brands include Roudybush, Harrison's, LaFeber or Pretty Bird. This should make up most of her diet. You can supplement with a small amount of a fortified seed mix. Round out her diet with fresh greens, vegetables and a small amount of fruit. She can also eat foods such as cooked grains and beans and plain pasta. Scrambled egg is also a healthy treat. Introduce new foods gradually and one at a time. Monitor for loose droppings afterwards.

Hello and congratulations on your new friend, King! Parakeets make wonderful pets, and they are a great first bird for a new bird owner. It sounds like you have everything in order, but I'd definitely get King some toys sooner rather than later as parakeets do require mental stimulation - they are very intelligent! Taming will take some time and patience. Using a perch to entice him to step up can be a good place to start, though I recommend waiting a few days to allow him to adjust to his new surroundings first. Yummy treats can be helpful - dried fruits and veggies are a good choice. Her eye and the area around it does not look bad. Monitor it for redness, swelling, excessive feather loss or excessive scratching. A small amount of seed is fine, but she shouldn't be on an all seed diet. A commercial pelleted diet would provide a balanced diet. Brands include Roudybush, Lafeber, Pretty Bird, Kay Tee Exact and Harrison's. These can be found online or in most pet stores. A mineral block and a cuttlebone should be provided as well.

Alexanderine Parakeet about 16 years of age. Keeps falling off his perch. Has had ruffled, droopy feathers for about three months now. Fell off once before and forgot how to whistle/other sounds he'd learned to mimic. Vet treated him for infection. H
If treating for infections didn't help I would be worried that there is an underlying neurologic or muscular issue ongoing. Other problems such as parasites, underlying illness or malnutrition are other possibilities. It would be best to bring your bird back into the vet for additional tests including a neuro test, bloodwork, possible X-rays etc to help rule out more serious issues and get them treated. It sounds like he's getting lots of snacks, however adding in a balanced parrot diet (most pet stores carry them) that is a combination of nuts, seeds, and nutrition-balanced pellets should make up the majority of his diet. Fruits and veggies and snacks are great extras, but ensuring he has a balanced base diet can help prevent any nutritional deficiencies.
