My dog has made wound in her nipple by byting herself,I didn't catch any reason for that

I am worried that the items I purchase from them and bring into my home may get my cat sick from these peoples pets. Even if they never touched the item. I just want to know if that is even possible for animal to animal diseases to be transferred through items just by being in the same environment without having been touched by them.
Watson was neutered and vaccinated when he was about five months, but only three pounds, by his rescue group. He's pretty skeletal right now, and is having a hard time eating and drinking. Could the surgery have made him sick - well, sicker? I'm waiting on his bloodwork results from his vet.
