I think my dog has a “hotspot” on his head. I was hoping you could give me some examples of things I can get at the store or around the house to help it it heal. I would like to avoid the vet because I do not have that kind of money right now. Thanks
I am sorry to hear about Hunter. This does look like it could be a hot spot. Sometimes topical treatment alone is enough, but sometimes we may need a short course of antibiotics and steroids to clean it up. They can also be painful so I am not sure how much Hunter will allow you to do at home. In the clinic we would normally shave the area with clippers to remove the soiled hair and debris. We would then clean the area with a chlorhexidine scrub. You can find a scrub like this at your drug store under the brand name Hibiclens. For topical treatment we would usually use a Gentocin spray, such as Gentaspray. This product is usually prescription only though. You could try an over the counter hotspot spray from the pet store or the product Zymox Topical Spray which can be purchased online, but these products may not be effective depending on response you may need to make an appointment to see the vet. Hello buddy is a yellow lab and he loves to chew on Rawhide. I can't seem to find the huge rawhides he likes that I buy at Christmas time. Can you recommend any treats that he can chew on for long periods of time? I see that dr. Foster and Smith sell
My favorite rawhide chews are sold through a company called Raw Feeding Miami (www.rawfeedingmiami.com). They have large, very durable rawhide rolls that are all-natural and made without any chemicals or artificial processing. They're quite thick and last a long time, even for big dogs - I would highly recommend giving them a try if you're looking for a good rawhide for Buddy :)

Sara is not very toy or praise oriented. What are your favorite lowish value and super high value treats? *for training. I love pig ears to but I can only do them once in a while because my dogs make a huge mess out of the house
Hi there. For training treats, you have quite a few different options depending on what she likes. Good, relatively low-value training treats would include kibble, Cheerios, carrots or green beans (cooked or raw), or packaged moist treats like BilJac or Blue Buffalo Blue Bits. High value training treats would include string cheese, pieces of meat (chicken, roast beef, or turkey), or cat food or liverwurst dispensed from a squeezable tube. It may take some trial and error to figure out what she likes enough to work for. Good luck!
