Felimazole Prescriptions for Small Animals & Other Pets

My cat has been prescribed 2.5 mg of Felimazole twice daily for hyperthyroidism. How long does the Felimazole stay active in the cat’s bloodstream? The reason for the question is that when I need to be away from, I have a cat sitter that comes in once a day to tend to the cat. Should she double the dose (5 mg), or stay with a single 2.5 mg pill?

Cat 1.5 years on Amlodipine 1.25mg 1x/d & Felimazole 2.5mg 2x/d. 6mon not eating, drinking more water & lost weight (4.8kg to 4kg in 3mon), got CBC & vet told me cat has anemia (28) likely CKD but when I asked about kidney function said upper normal (14). I asked for specifics, vet said would forward, instead vet nurse called to book cat for anaesthesia + $1000 aprox ultrasound & refused to release the bloodwork to me. Wanting second opinion, 10-14y/o FIV+ flea eggs found, why ultrasound?

Our cat Duchess, age about 10 yrs, had been chewing on plastic. We tried to stop it but then she started pulling the hair out of her tail. Duchess stopped eating and was taken to hospital last night. They said it was hyperthyroidism and gave us Felimazole to treat her. She still hasn’t eaten and we are now about 42 hours without eating, she’s not interested in anything. Including treats. My cat has been diagnosed with TF. She is 10 and no other cats in the house. Is TF fatal? I was planning to treat it with the drug recommended. Any special diet?

our cat is 18 years old - she is on methimazole 5mg, buprenorphine 0.3 mg. for hyper thyroid and diabetic. This morning she is having trouble walking. Can not walk at all. is there anything we can do.

My 16 year old cat has been on methimazole for hyper thyroidism. She currently takes 3.75 mg/day. She has been taking it for about 9 months and her dosage started at 2.5 mg/day. Our vet suggests continuing with this therapy indefinitely, but I see some info online that radiotherapy has better results and we could pay for that if it’s substantially better. Looking for a second informed opinion. Does methimazole have any advantages over radiotherapy? Thank you, David

my cats thyroid was very low. she took 5mg Methimazole twice a day for 4 months now thyroid to high 13. NOW VET WANTS ME TO GIVE HER 10MG TWICE day that doesn't make sense. How cam doubling the medicine lower her thyroid numbers.

I have a tranquilizer to be used during nail trimming. It is called Acepromazine 10mg. Is this medication safe for cats too?
