According to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, while Previcox may ultimately be shown to be safe for use in cats, supporting information or FDA approval is not currently available for it to be recommended. I don't like to disagree or contradict a vet's recommendations, but because there isn't supporting evidence that it's safe to be used in cats, another pain medication may be better to use on Haley. I would speak to your vet about getting another pain medication prescribed for her.

It is a human drug and that is the lowest capsule strength available. It is best to ask your vet to have the drug compounded into a liquid or a transdermal gel. You dividing the capsules is not ideal - you are not likely to get a correct dose. Roadrunner Pharmacy can compound it for you. Your vet can call in a prescription and the pharmacy can ship it right to you. ( https://roadrunnerpharmacy.com/product-catalog/ )

Unfortunately it is illegal for us to give dose information for prescription drugs without seeing your cat in person first. You need to check with Purrrcy's vet to see if this is an appropriate dose. Gabapentin in cats, however, is typically used for pain not sedation.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Steroids generally used are Prednisolone or Depo-Medrol. If Steroids can not control the lesions, we often go to Atopica ( cyclosporine ). For the antibiotic, I would start either with the amoxicillin/clauvalonic acid or one of the cephalosporins ( Covenia if available to you). You might also investigate using a hypoallergenic diet for cats, such as one with a novel protein or one made with a hydrolyzed protein. Science Diet & Royal Canin are very popular ones here. Hope this helps. Take care.

Yes, these two medications can be used together without any problems. I would caution you, however, that Metacam needs to be used very carefully in older cats because it isn't safe for cats with any degree of chronic kidney disease - this is extremely common in older cats, so I'm always very cautious about using it unless there has been recent blood work showing that everything is fine. If it was prescribed recently by your vet, then go ahead and use it - but if not, I would definitely recommend talking with them first to make sure they feel that it's safe for your kitty.
