Is a bird feeder detrimental to the health of wild birds?
Hello. No, I do not think so. The biggest concern about birdfeeders is how they attract predators including sparrow hawks & cats. Some folks claim we are turning wild birds into seed junkies & this is very bad for their livers ( I am always telling my clients to get their caged budgies & cockatiels off of an all seed diet ). But most wild birds do supplement their diets & do migrate after fueling up on the energy filling seeds. Bad seed ( moldy ) can kill birds with aflatoxin. And the spilled seed can attract vermin which can carry disease. Some folks recommend only feeding during the cold weather to help migratory birds & to only buy the best & freshest seed you can. Cost matters, so stay away from the crappy dollar store bags of bird seed. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I got a Budgie recently and she’s been refusing to drink her water. I’ve been using a clean paintbrush dipped in water and she’ll lick at it but she won’t drink from her bowl.
You can try changing the water bowl type to see if it encourages her to drink. Some birds also like drip waterers (that would be similar to using the paintbrush, only she could do it on her own), or even waters that have a sort of sieve that can be drank from rather than a dish. You may be able to find something to use instead fo the brush.

Hi there, thanks for using Boop by Petco. Snowy may have an eye infection or allergies affecting her eye. The discoloration around the eye is probably from the excessive tearing. Since you are unable to take him to the vet try flushing the eye with a sterile saline solution and using a humidifier in the room to help in case it is allergies. Best of luck. Wild bird in South Australia Pied Butcher bird. Sore swollen feet. Prefers to stand (on the side of) one foot. Now has swallowing problems. Fed dog food and occasionally grated cheese. Please help love Nicki x
Ideally, it should be examined by an experienced wildlife or avian veterinarian. The symptoms reported may be due to injury or infection on or around the feet. It may also be diet related. Dog food and cheese are not appropriate foods as these birds subsist on a diet of small prey, insects, fruits and vegetables. It is never recommended to feed wildlife as it can be detrimental to them and dangerous to you.

Hello. All birds should have fresh food and water changed every day. Clean the cage about once a week or more often as needed based on size of cage and mess produced. Tap water may be fine to give depending on your water source, so check with your municipality about that. If in doubt, offer bottled water. Feed about 65-75% complete pellets like ZuPreem or Roudybush, and the rest can be fresh veggies, some seed, and nuts. Have Tweety examined by an avian vet at least once a year for wellness, since catching problems early gives the best chance of successful treatment. Avian vets are listed at aav.org. Good luck!
