Yes, but I prefer cephalexin or cefpodoxime for skin infection. The amoxicillin dose for a dog 40lbs would be about 200mg every 12 hours. I would recommend seeing a vet though for appropriate antibiotic therapy recommendations. Topical therapy should also be considered. I typically recommend using a shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. I also recommend using welactin omega 3 fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. Malacetic conditioning spray is also a good option to spray isolated areas on the body where infection is present. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. I am also available via consultation if needed.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kitten. Amoxicillin is a medication with a wide dosing range. I can understand your confusion with the package though. I would recommend following your veterinarian's dosing for now, but be sure to follow up with the prescribing doctor to double check. You should be able to call the office and have someone check for you. This will give you piece of mind. I hope this information helps!

That is the generic form of Clavamox. You can buy it as long as it matches the prescription from your veterinarian. You may need your vet to write a prescription for generic Clavamox. Contact the pharmacy beforehand to confirm they will fill it generically.

If they are tablets, you can crush them and mix into a tiny bit of puppy food. You can also contact your veterinarian and ask for Amoxi-drops. This is the liquid form of the antibiotic and may be easier to administer.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor kitten! Even though you are correct that this kitten likely needs antibiotics it needs to be prescribed by a Vet who can examine the kitten. We are not allowed to prescribe medications by law without a valid Veterinary Client Patient Relationship requires an examination. Cats are miraculous healers and if the kitten is eating and will allow you to clean the wound you can do that. Just be sure that you do not get bitten as you do not know the Rabies status of the kitten. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/cat/cat-amoxi/ I wish you the best!
