Game changer

I have 2 large dogs that both pull. One has a harness that works for her. However, our other 70lb puppy is a huge puller even with the harness. I was at my wit’s end and decided to try the gentle leader. After figuring it out with the help of an associate, it’s a game changer! I can literally walk him now with my pinkie. He doesn’t love it and rubs against me to get it off, but he’s slowly getting used to it. I can now walk both of my dogs together without hurting myself by getting pulled in every direction. Highly recommend!

LG head halter for 75 lb GSD

chrisfromva

I should start with saying I've tried walking our GSD with his regular collar, a Martingale, a harness, a no-pull harness, and this is our fifth attempt at a collar device with the most success. Prior to this halter, he would choke himself, cut himself, throw us around, etc. My schedule has made it difficult to get him training so I got to work with him whenever and wherever I can, which is now a possibility. He's extremely hyper, and ~75 lbs of pure energy. The safety clip secures to your dog's collar in the event they get out of the head halter, which mine has on a few occasions. This doesn't concern me though, I've made leaps and bounds in the last few weeks with this guy who lets his nose walk us normally. It's turned a painful public tug-of-war into a normal walk. If you have a difficult dog, I recommend this head halter. Petco has a good return policy so you could at least try it out and see if it works.

No instructions. I thought I'd save $5 and purchased this after she ate through another brand. Should have spent a little more for one with instructions

Head Halter

Just the thing I need for my stubborn Great Dane puppy, who's now 130lb. The Large size fits him fine. He still hates the halter, but I know he'll get used to it. And I need it to keep me from being dragged while we work on his behavior skills.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Save Your Money If You Have a Medium-Sized Breed

I bought this for my adult Scottish Terrier. I bought the medium size, which specifically lists it is for a Scottish Terrier (among other breeds). Despite all efforts, I cannot get it to fit my Scottie, who is an average-sized Scottie. It may work for bigger breeds, but is simply too big for my dog. He can get out of it in a minute. It needs to be adjustable for the muzzle. I will be returning it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Broke after One Use

PoorPetcoProvidence

We bought this halter at a PetCo store in Providence, RI and it broke on the very first use. Our puppy had it on less than 10 min. I thought there must have been something faulty with the one we purchased (maybe a pre-existing fray that we didn't notice), so we took it back to the store and they refused to give us a refund. They said our dog had damaged it so they could not refund it. If it is standard for this harness to frey and break in under 10 min of use on a 7 month old puppy it is not a good product. I would advise against this brand. I also caution others that Petco's return policy is not as lenient as they make it out to be.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Would my dog still be able to chew a seat belt while wearing this contraption?

  1. Hi Anonymous. Good day! The Head Halter will not help to curb chewing. It is not designed for that. Our recommendation is to work with a trainer in conjunction with the TEMPORARY use of a muzzle like Baskerville during car rides. Thanks.

Does this face halter come with a leash to????

  1. No. You just use your regular leash.

Do you have to tighten this around you dogs nose like other gentle leaders. For example I have two gentle leaders now that I but on but at the bottom underneath the chin I have to tighten and clip it but it does stay in place as we walk?

  1. I purchased the head halter, but was unable to use it for my dog. She chewed it and was able to get out of it. By the way, she is an Akita

Will this allow me to groom around my dogs face without her biting me? It would be for a few minutes... She is fine on her body but not around her face.

  1. No, this doesn’t keep the mouth closed at all. It’s used like a halter on a horse, to lead and guide the dog

Does this just attached to her collar?

  1. Hi Heather923, Yes, you may attach the safety clip D-ring on dog's collar for added security. Thanks

Where am I measuring, to know if I need medium or large?

  1. Hi doginneed You may choose based on the neck’s circumference. The medium fits dogs with a neck circumference of 14.5 to 20.5 inches and the large fits dogs that measures 16 to 23 inches. Thanks
