This gate is wider than most and enabled me to close a strange corner-to-corner space where the hallway, entry way and living room meet. Huge plus for that! The problem with this gate is what another reviewer stated: my dog can slip underneath it. For reference, my pup is a 3 month old mini golden doodle and is maybe 10 lbs. It looks like she is too big to squeeze under it, but her puffy fur collapses as she wriggles her way under it. So, until she is too big to do that, I put an adjustable handle that wedges into a corner on one side and has a loop that slips around the mount on the other. Problem solved. Gate works great and it’s just short enough to step over it if I don’t want to open it up.

Retractable Gate Not As simple as I thought

I found the instructions too complicated to install and hired a handyman who started installing the gate and realized the doorknob would hit the top bracket. My doorknob is average height and the gate hits it unless I install the gate higher than the instructions say. I returned this gate and purchased a swing gate that works really well.

The darn thing kept getting stuck, the retraction is way to fast and there are too many little facets that need to be moved in order to open and close the gate. It was not smooth. I did get the job done, blocked the portion of the hallway, however my pup was too small and slipped right underneath no problem.
No, I do not recommend this product.

We looked for gates to keep our standard poodle on the deck with us. One rusted and the other was too weak. This is perfect and looks great! It has already withstood an Ohio winter and looks like new. Easy to open and close. Highly recommend!

How do I mount this? Does it screw in? I don't want to damage my stair posts.
- Yes, the Retractable gate must be installed using the screws included. If you want to install it without damaging your posts, look for the Cardinal Gates clamps. These clamps serve as adapters to fit around the post to attach the gate. The clamps are made in different sizes and shapes to fit different posts.

All pictures show the gate attached so the mesh retracts to the left side so it rolls out from left to right. Can it be attached so it unrolls from right to left? in other words can the hooks be on the left side & the retracted gate on the right?

Is it possible to order a second set of wall hardware? The location where I plan to mount this could be used to close off two different door ways depending on the direction it's applied. If I could purchase a second set of hardware, this could work.

- The retractable gate would need something in the middle to mount the receiving brackets onto. The two gates can't connect to each other.

What gate would you recommend to keep a cat out of a room? One where a cat could not jump over, squeeze under or get through along the sides by the wall.
- My cat can jump/climb pretty well so I'm not sure a gate would stop it. Maybe 2 gates, stacked, would work.

- Each gate needs something to attach to on each side. You might want to look at the Cardinal Gates Extra Wide Expandable Gate (Model EX100) for a gate that is hardware installed and can be as wide as you want using optional extensions.
