Saved our Patio Door

KB from Livonia Michigan

This product saved my new patio door. My golden retriever puppy scratches at the glass when he wants out and in (wish we'd trained him not to do from the start!) As he and his nails got bigger, we were worried he would ruin our new door, so we applied a shield to both sides. At 10 months, he was tall enough that his nails snagged the upper edge of the shield and so we replaced them. When I removed the old shields and saw all the scratches vs the perfectly protected glass, I was so relieved to see that this product really works. New shields are applied a little higher. By the way we've tried training him to use jingle bells, and a doggie doorbell but without success.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great product . I would recommend. You can cut to fit this on your door. I used these for a sliding glass door.

Our product does the job - it dissuades the cat from scratching to go out. However:1. the color is translucent green, not clear - which is not as subtle as expected; 2. the backing on the sticky patches is REALLY hard to remove (tweezers, as recommended elsewhere, did the trick); and 3. the sticky patches don't stick to the product effectively. I've sacrificed aesthetics and used painters tape to keep it on the door.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Plastic Scratch Shield for doors

It didn't come with enough tape. I also think the sheet is overkill. Usually a dog on scratches up the side of the door that opens. I ended up just cutting a strip that goes from the bottom of the door to right under the door knob. It works for me because I have a small dog, so he cannot reach any higher than that. It fixed the issue and looks fine, so I'm pleased at the end of the day. I have enough plastic left to do the whole neighborhood though...lol

Yes, I recommend this product.

Waste of money. My 20lb, 7 year old beagle ripped it out out of the wall (was installed in studs).

A neighbor's dog would always scratch my new door whenever she came to visit so I really needed something that would discourage that and also protect my newly painted door. I also wanted something that was clear so the pretty teal color of the door would show. This product was just the answer. It was a little big but it was easy to cut to size put in place. I highly recommend it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I need to not only protect my door but the wall area next to it where my dog also jumps up and scratches. Will this be safe on walls or will it remove the paint?

  1. You can use the Door Shield on walls too. It's helpful to use a hair dryer to heat and soften the adhesive for easier removal.

Could this product be used on a leather chair?

  1. Thank you for your question. We would not recommend using this product on fabric, as it may not adhere right and may cause damage.

What about the door jamb and woodwork?

  1. It should. You would have to cut to fit. When I put it on the door, our dog started scratching the door jamb and weather stripping. I used a piece of what I cut off the door to cover it.

How many adhesive tabs are included? Can they be cut in half in case I cut to fit and want to use the remaining piece elsewhere?

  1. As a user, we cut the shield to fit the area where the two dogs scratch. We chose to use all of the adhesive tabs included and ordered a roll of that particular two-sided tape to use later.

Scratch guard

  1. As a user, I found the tape squares that hold the plastic shield to the door work well, and were easily removable from our front door.

3m pet care scratch protection film

  1. Thank you for your question. This product is labeled for use on wood. We would not recommend using on stainless steel appliances as the adhesive may harm the surface. lkt

Door shield

  1. As a user, I found that the two-sided clear plastic squares which hold the door shield in place were easily removable from our new door which is stained wood and has a shiny finish. No problems were encountered with the finish of the door.

does door shield work on patio door screens ?

  1. I very seriously doubt it. But then I have a sizable Labrador retriever and he tore a hole in this shield within two weeks.
