What do you recommend I need my new sun conure? I have been giving him seeds, bits of fruit, and such lately. I would just like to know the best thought on what to feed him! I.e. treats and normal diet. Should I buy pellets and change out his food
Hello. You will want to use a very good formulated pelleted feed for Loki. Stay away as much as possible from all seed diets. Pellets should compromise 75-80% of the total daily food intake. 20% of the diet should be fruits, vegetables & greens ( not lettuce ). Nutri-berries would be a good treat, but keep the amounts small. And of course, fresh water daily. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Yes, this could be just a one time thing. I honestly wouldn't be overly worried at this stage. I would just monitor her stools and if this persists I would get her to the vet for an exam and a fecal gram staining. I agree, I would switch her to pellets. I like LaFeber diets and their website has great information on how to switch a bird from seeds to pellets. ( https://lafeber.com/ )

I've been trying to get my pet lovebird to eat some fruits or veggies. I've put them in his cage, in his food bowl, I've eaten it in front of him, he doesn't want to touch it. It seems as if he's afraid of the foods I show him, how can I get my bird
It may be that Truffle still isn't sure that is food, and some birds that are raised on seed and not exposed to fruits/veggies at a young age may always be somewhat aversive to it. Continuing to offer a variety of fruits and veggies as treats is best until he tries one or you find one he enjoys.

Small parrots should be fed a varied diet with a commercial pelleted diet being the base. A fortified seed diet can be offered in limited quantities to prevent obesity and finicky eating. Most fresh fruits and vegetables can be offered daily as well. Favorites are grapes, apple, cooked egg and pasta. Limit fruit to prevent loose droppings. The cage should be cleaned weekly, if not more frequently depending on how messy she is. Provide different sized perches to exercise her feet. Parrots are chewers so care must be taken that they don't chew wires or toxic plants. Provide plenty of bird safe chew toys and other toys to keep her engaged. Rotate them out to prevent boredom. Ideally, she should be examined by an experienced avian veterinarian yearly. Please peruse the Boop by Petco Library for articles regarding bird care.

Hello! I am so happy to hear you are looking to improve your birds nutrition! Nutrition is the foundation of good health in birds and is so important! I recommend ZuPreem, Roudybush, Lafeber, or Harrison pellets. You can buy all of these except Harrison’s at your local PetCo or other pet store. It’s important to feed about 75% of the diet as a complete, high quality pelleted food. The brand you chose is less important and will often be dictated by what Charlie prefers (for example, my bird hates Harrison’s, but loves ZuPreem, so that’s what I buy). The remaining 25% of the diet should be mostly fresh vegetables (10-20%) with a small portion of seeds and other treats like fruit and nuts. I usually recommend that owners save the really tasty but not nutritionally sound treats like sunflower seeds, nuts, dried fruit for training. If Charlie only gets treats when he’s interacting with you, this will help improve and solidify your bond. If your bird is really attached to eating seeds, this
