Explore Petco's wide selection of Solid Gold products and find out how this group of animal lovers, explorers and nutritionist craft their holistic formulas. For over forty years, Solid Gold has been developing a growing line of dry & canned foods, treats, and supplement products for both dogs and cats.
As part of Solid Gold's nutrition philosophy, they make pet food products with purpose. They begin this process by scouring the earth for simple, natural ingredients that unleash your pet's “inner gold!” Their Solid Gold dry dog and cat food products for example each use their Gold Source Core Nutrition formula. This includes ocean fish meal for a balanced protein to help with muscle growth and egg's essential amino acids to support muscle growth and metabolism. Solid Gold also includes super foods like pumpkin, along with Vitamins C and E, so their dry food products can help support your pet's immune system and long term health. Omega fatty acids are used to promote immune system function plus skin and coat health, while protected probiotics and natural prebiotic fiber support your pet's digestion. Taurine is also added to Solid Gold products to support heart health along with L-Carnitine to help burn fat and maintain muscle mass.
By using a combination of meat meal and high quality fresh meat instead of meat by-products, Solid Gold is able to provide your pet an adequate supply of meat protein in every dish. Solid Gold is dedicated to providing pets with the highest quality ingredients, even if it means they are sourced internationally. Regardless of the sourcing, all Solid Gold ingredients undergo multiple checkpoints against key health and safety criteria and are brought into Solid Gold US manufacturing facilities where their unique recipes are crafted into food products and packaged for sale. Solid Gold treats are made in the US with 100% US ingredients, so you can safely reward your dog.

I would recommend Purina Pro Plan, Hills Science Diet, or Eukanuba diets. The reason is that they all do good testing of products and have veterinarians on staff making sure the food is nutritionally balanced. There are many "boutique" food available these days that look great, but aren't ideally formulated or researched. If Sullivan is an usually active dog (hunts, does competitive agility/fly ball etc, or is a police dog), there are variations of these food for more active dogs. I do not recommend a grain free diet. This is really just a fad born out of increased awareness of gluten-free diets and celiac in people. 99.999% of the time, when dogs have food allergies it is related to an animal protein. The grain free diets are actually more likely to give dogs intestinal issues because they tend to be higher in fat. I hope you find a diet that Sullivan likes and that fits your budget!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I recommend Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina and Iams/Eukanuba. These companies employ veterinary nutritionists and have above industry standards regarding quality ingredients and care to prevent contamination at their facilities. These companies are far superior than the boutique brands. Have a good day!

Hi and thanks for posting. A brand that comes to mind that may be what you are looking for is Sojos which is freeze dried food. You add a small amount of water to it and the food pieces are on the softer side but not mushy. I hope this helps!

Dry food is the most convenient food for us and also the least expensive, so that has been the most common way to feed dogs. There are a number of companies that now offer fresh food diets to various degrees. One of my favorite options is dehydrated food from The Honest Kitchen which is both convenient and good quality. In general, canned food tends to be a little higher quality than dry food. They are not limited by the restrictions that require enough carbohydrates to be put into a dry food. But feeding canned food alone can be very expensive for a large dog, so most people feed a combination of canned and dry. If you do that, make sure that Leo eats all the food at once and doesn't leave some kibble coated with canned food for later (which can be a problem for bacterial growth). I would also recommend a slow transition with any diet changes. I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. Any puppy, especially one that is going to be a larger breed dog when fully grown, should be eating a kibble diet that is formulated for puppies/growth. Highly recommended dog food brands include Purina, Hills Science diet, and Royal Canin. That being said, cheaper options such as Pedigree are absolutely fine. We do NOT recommend grain free diets, especially in larger dogs, as they are linked to the development of a deadly type of heart disease called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). Vegetarian and vegan dog food are also very unhealthy. Dog foods that contain by-product are not bad/unhealthy. By-product can include the internal organs such as liver, heart, even bone, which are all rich in nutrients for dogs. I hope this is helpful! Best of luck finding a food for Apollo.
