Thanks for using Boop by Petco! While not necessarily normal, this can certainly be seen during the winter months. If she is otherwise fine, I would not be too concerned about this. However, if she develops any other symptoms like decreased appetite or vomiting, have her evaluated then. Good luck!

For short walks, a few minutes, she can probably go out as is. If you plan on spending more than 5-10 minutes outside or if Maggie takes a long time to do her business, then you may want to consider booties and a coat. Many dogs can be trained to run on a tread mill! This is commonly used for dogs who live in cold climates or have owners who are not able to tolerate cold weather. A trainer or behaviorist can help in the training but many people figure it out at home often with the help of guide books and videos. If Nyssa likes to play tug of war, purchase a tug toy and set aside 20 minutes a day to play with her. This is a good, dry/warm indoor activity! Many dogs don't mind playing ball in the snow or snow shoeing even! As long as conditions are safe and not icy, a good walk/jog or bike ride can be accomplished even in cold weather. Some people even ski with their dogs! If there is snow or rough terrain, she may need protection for her paws. Many cities now offer pools for dog swimming which can certainly tire them out. If Nyssa is good with other dogs and likes to play, doggie day care offers an indoor/dry option for her. Additionally, if you work long hours, websites such as Rover.com offer dog w

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It isn't a perfectly accurate chart. It is a good guideline though and likely depends on the dogs tolerance (getting used to prolonged cold weather), breed (arctic breeds) and how long haired the pet is. Also wind chills would have to come in to play. I think for the layperson that have dogs that are not conditioned to extremely cold weather can be helpful. But I agree it leaves out a lot of important factors. In some ways it is better to be safe than sorry! I hope this helps!

There are many things to consider for keeping an outdoor dog comfortable. Any type of shelter will do as long as it provides enough room (for the dog to stand up and turn around), protects the dog from the weather (good roof and sound walls) and the door is situated such that the prevailing winds do not blow right in. Straw bedding is helpful during the cold weather to help the dog maintain some heat in the house. Fleas are better controlled with medications such as Frontline, Seresto collar, NexGard, and many others. If your dog is a short-haired dog, pay close attention during the cold months to make sure he is able to keep warm. There are also coats for dogs that can help! Thank you for using pet coach.
