Both of my birds seem to destroy everything made of wood in their cage whether it be a ladder or their perches, what is somethjng I could do about it, I don't want to switch to plastic perches.
Destroying wooden toys and ladders is actually natural behavior in birds and is good enrichment. Some things you can do is offer a variety of other toys and things that they can destroy. Use newspaper or cardboard rolls to wrap and hold treats to give them something to destroy and forage at the same time. You can consider getting slightly thicker woofer toys that may last longer or combining some plastic perches and ladders with wood. A variety of shape sizes and textures is healthier than one size and style only. Concrete type perches help to file thier nails. Wood such as Manzanita is extremely hard and much more durable than the plain wood perches. Below are some toy ideas. Thanks for reaching out about Bebe and including a photo. Great job with the rescue but you should reach out to a wildlife rehabilitation center for further care. Sugar water is not sufficient to maintain long term, as amino acid solution, nectars are necessary for growth. Socializing with other hummingbirds is also necessary for survival in the wild. For now, heat support, oral liquids and sugar water can help. Good luck.

A commercial pelleted diet is balanced, healthy and convenient. They can be found in most pet stores or online. Quality brands include Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber and Pretty Bird. You can supplement the diet with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables, cooked grains/beans/pastas and plain rice. Budgies and other birds also enjoy some scrambled egg occasionally.

The best solution would be to contact a local wildlife rehabilitator. One in your area specializing in avians should be able to identify it. The bird looks to be healthy, so you've been doing a good job. The rehabber can confirm this then let you know when the bird can be released. Search online, contact a local veterinary clinic or check the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website to find a rehabilitator.

I would also recommend considering proximity to the kitchen in your home as well as lighting in the room. It’s best to keep the bird in a room further from the kitchen to avoid potentially toxic fumes and in a room that does not get too hot or cold during the day. It is always best to acclimate birds slowly to their new environment. I hope all is well with your new pet!
