You can add in a commercial pelleted mix. Brands include Roudybush, Harrison's, LaFeber or Pretty Bird. This should make up most of her diet. You can supplement with a small amount of a fortified seed mix. Round out her diet with fresh greens, vegetables and a small amount of fruit. She can also eat foods such as cooked grains and beans and plain pasta. Scrambled egg is also a healthy treat. Introduce new foods gradually and one at a time. Monitor for loose droppings afterwards.

A commercial pelleted diet is balanced, healthy and convenient. They can be found in most pet stores or online. Quality brands include Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber and Pretty Bird. You can supplement the diet with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables, cooked grains/beans/pastas and plain rice. Budgies and other birds also enjoy some scrambled egg occasionally.

My cockatiel has been eating Leferber’s Premium Daily Diet pellets as a staple diet. She’s also been eating broccoli everyday. I also give her a bit of crushed eggshells once or twice a week. She has a cuttlebone available at all times. I’m wondering
I think this would be fine to give as a once in a while treat, especially if Princess enjoys it! Sometimes birds can be a bit picky with new items, so you may need to offer it once or twice before she shows any interest in it. As long as the pellets remain her main diet, this should be great as a treat!

Parakeets, also called Budgerigars, are small members of the parrot family and they can become good mimics. The average adult size is 7 inches long, head to end of tail. The average life span is between 10 to 20 years with proper care. A well-balanced Parakeet diet consists of: Specialized pellets should make up 60-70% of diet, fresh vegetables and fruits and small amounts of fortified seeds Clean, fresh, filtered, chlorine-free water, changed daily. Do not feed birds: avocado, fruit seeds, chocolate, caffeine or alcohol; it can cause serious medical conditions. Avoid sugar and high fat treats. Things to remember when feeding your Parakeet: Fresh food and water should always be available. Vegetables and fruits not eaten within a few hours should be discarded. Remember, treats should not exceed 10% of total food intake. Housing Parakeets acclimate well to average household temperatures, not to exceed 80°F; be cautious of extreme temperature changes. Patience and time! Until he's 100% on his training, be sure to always reward with a treat. However, if he's perfect at it with a treat every time, you can start to wean off them. You can try luring him with the treat to get him to perch, and then start only giving him treats intermittently. If he doesn't know when he's getting a treat and when he isn't, he may be more inclined to keep trying in the hopes he gets one sometimes. You can also use a favorite toy to play with, a gentle pet in a place he enjoys, or some of his regular food instead as a "treat" while you're phasing out the real ones.
