Do you provide prescriptions for breeders and pet owners or is this service just for advice?
Unfortunately, we cannot (legally and ethically) advise medication without having an established patient-doctor relationship. It is also dangerous for us to advise medication without examining the animal and fully understanding their condition and medical history. The only place to get a prescription is through a veterinary clinic. However, some vets may be comfortable writing prescriptions for well-established clients that they trust know the conditions they are treating for. This service is strictly for advice only. Can a vet refuse to give you a prescription? My dog is on epiphen, which states on the bottle is NOT to be stopped abruptly. However, when I phoned for a repeat prescription today, was told it would not be issued until samples were taken from my dog!
Yes, veterinarians can refuse to refill prescriptions. I realize that this can be frustrating, but some medications can have side effects or cause organ damage, requiring regular monitoring, often in the form of blood tests. Epiphen (phenobarbital), for example, can greatly impact the liver and the levels of medication within the bloodstream must be monitored to assure that the medication stays at a safe and effective therapeutic level. In the US, we also must have examined a pet within the past 12 months in order to legally prescribe any medication - including some flea and tick preventions. I don't know what regulations may exist in the UK. It may be worth another call to your vet to determine the reasons behind the refusal to refill the medication. You can find this product at any of the online veterinary pharmacies. In order to find the best value I would recommend going on goodrx.com. On this website you will be able to type in the medication and dose and it will provide you with coupon codes and the location of where you need to obtain the product. Regardless of what site you use you will still need to obtain a prescription from your veterinarian. I always caution my clients when they are planning to purchase these types of products from pharmacies of unknown origin as we cannot be certain how the drugs are being stored and what source they are obtaining the drugs from. Do your due diligence before deciding on which place to use. I have had relatively good experiences with Valley Vet Supply.

A vet has already prescribed 20Mg Robenacoxib for our dog. We want to buy the repeat tablets online but I think he's going to want £20 each time just to write repeat prescriptions. Is there a way of avoiding this?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! In the US we do not charge to write prescriptions (as far as I know). The laws in the UK must be different. Robenacoxib are prescription so there is no way to get the drug with out your Vet approving the prescription, My suggestion is to ask for a larger supply, 3 months or more with refills. That way you do not have to pay the prescription fee that often. I hope this helps and have a great day!
