Nikki is adorable! Thanks for including pictures! Yes, PetSmile is expensive, but it is one of the only toothpastes to actually be approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council. Here is a list of their approved products. http://www.vohc.org/VOHCAcceptedProductsTable_Dogs.pdf PetSmile is what I use with my dogs. (Last year they ran a 25% off sale before Christmas, so I stocked up!) Yes, it is fine to use Dawn on Nikki's feet daily, but I suspect any gentle cleaner would be fine as well. You may have to experiment to find the best shampoo for her. I have been very pleased with EarthBath products, so you might want to try their Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo for itch relief. https://earthbath.com/product/oatmeal-aloe-shampoo/ There are also prescription itch relief shampoo and conditioner products if needed that you can talk to your vet about. My dog has recently been chewing on her feel/nails and I thought that her nails just needed to be clipped. I took her today to get her nails clipped by our vet, and it seemed to help. However, when we got In bed this evening, she has started chewing
Hello and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It sounds as though Maggie may have an allergy based on your description. I would recommend bathing her in a shampoo such as Douxo PS calm shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the resolved. I would also recommend using a spray such as malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area until resolved. Welactin omega 3 fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent are a couple of other products I recommend which can be found online easily. I hope this helps! If there is no improvement then I would discuss other options with a veterinarian that may provide more relief using prescription medications if needed. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! I recommend using a product called BioBalm by Dermoscent. Bayer makes this product and you can find this easily online. For the long hair like pieces, I usually recommend having these trimmed (there are no nerves going to these pieces and it is painless to have these trimmed back). I would recommend having this done at your veterinarian's clinic where they can trim them there using clippers or a dremmel file. Once these have been made shorter, the BioBalm can be applied 3 times daily. It may take several months for this balm to work well but I have seen cases such as Allie's dramatically improve. Have a spunky new rescue chihuahua mix and she is skittish. So much so she will resist any efforts to trim her nails. We have 4 dogs so I have trimmed nails hundreds of times--but with Ricki Ricardo, no luck. I sit on the floor and flip them over
Congratulations on your new dog Ricky Ricardo! In my opinion, there’s not really a superior nail trimmer but for small breed dogs, the AKC does recommend the guillotine type as compared to the scissor type. Try conditioning Ricky to have a positive association with the clippers. This can be managed with high value treats and clicker training. Basically you start by rewarding her every time she looks at the clippers (click. treat). Then you gradually bring the clippers closer and touch her with the clippers. Every time she gets a reward. Then you slowly progress to clipping 1 nail (click. treat). And so on and so forth. It may not always be easy but it’s a start and hopefully she will allow it to happen. My dog was playing outside, and it looks that got a cut on a nail. What should I put on the ‘cut’?
It looks like Dante broke his nail. I recommend getting a bootie to protect it and keeping it clean. Ideally Dante would have antibiotics and pain medication to help him which would come from a veterinarian. I would also recommend an elizabethan collar so Dante does not lick at that paw.
