Hi, I'm making homemade dog cookies and I just wanted to check and make sure everything I'm using is safe for my dog. Ingredients are: Oatmeal, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, sugar, baking soda, peanut butter, and eggs?
Great question! Oatmeal, sugar (not too much!), baking soda, peanut butter (again not too much!!!), and eggs are fine. According to the Pet Poison Hotline, "Pumpkin spice products are usually flavored with a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Ingestion of very large amounts of cinnamon can potentially cause vomiting, diarrhea, lowered blood sugar, irritation of the mouth and lungs, and possibly changes in heart rate and issues with the liver. Nutmeg contains a toxin called myristicin, and toxicity can cause symptoms including hallucinations, disorientation, increased heart rate, high blood pressure, dry mouth, abdominal pain, and possibly seizures. Ingestion of large amounts of ginger can cause stomach upset and lethargy." As long as there are not large amounts of either cinnamon or pumpkin spice in the cookies, they should be fine for Princess. Remember these cookies are a treat, and only give her one every couple of days. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Yes, there are a couple of products available for dogs with rough and dry paw pads. Musher's Secret is great for dry paw pads, and it can be used year round for protection of Cookie's paws. Other products include Paw Soother and PawTection. You can get these items off the internet or your local pet shop may carry them. I hope this helps!

My 75lb dog ate about 10 chocolate chip cookies. Will she be okay?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Since Mulan is 75 lbs there is likely not enough chocolate in the cookies to cause toxicity. But that amount of cookies could cause tummy upset or pancreatitis. If Mulan starts vomiting, having diarrhea or won't eat then make an appointment with your Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am not very concerned at all about this. The amount of chocolate in these cookies is small and unlikely to cause a problem for a dog this size. As always, watch for vomiting more than once, diarrhea, and pacing- just in case. If you see these, it’s time to see the vet to be sure heart rate and blood pressure do not signal a problem. For days where it is very hot, you do want to avoid taking your dog for a walk at the hottest parts of the day (mid-day) especially on paved areas as your dog's feet can get burned. They do sell dog booties that you can put on your dog's feet to help protect them. If she has no skin/coat issues, just a gentle oatmeal shampoo is fine for bathing when needed. Most dogs do not need frequent bathing unless they are getting very dirty and bathing too often can dry their skin out. I wouldn't bathe more than every other week unless needed.
