Cefpet, or cefpodoxime, is a cephalosporin antibiotic that can be used to treat bacterial skin infections in many cases, provided that the bacteria are not resistant to this medication. I'm not sure what type of stomach infection you are referring to since the stomach does not typically become infected without the presence of serious medical conditions. As a result, I can't comment as to the possible efficacy of cefpodoxime in this situation. As with any prescription medication, Andy's veterinarian should be able to advise you as to the best course of treatment. I hope that all goes well for Andy!

This antibiotic has a wide margin of safety in dogs, so in general, no serious side effects would be expected from a single "extra" dose. Charlie may have an upset stomach today (mild diarrhea or vomiting), or you may not notice any problems at all. If you have any concerns, it would be best to contact the veterinarian who prescribed the medication for him to see what he/she recommends.

So your vet gave you an allergy medication and an antibiotic. Cefpodoxime is used to treat respiratory infections in dogs. I am wondering if a prescription eye medication would be good for Coco's eyes, and I would take her back into the vet to discuss using that. I hope this helps.

Cephalexin and Simplicef are both cephalosporins, so they are the same group of antibiotics, but cephalexin is the generic name for a 1st generation cephalosporin and Simplicef is a trade name for Cefpodoxime which is a 3rd generation cephalosporin (so it is a newer drug) and works better in some circumstances. Here is more information on both drugs. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=538 https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2038 I hope that was helpful! Although cephalexin and cefpodoxime are both cephalosporin antibiotics, they are different drugs - so it's certainly possible for an organism to be susceptible to one and not the other. Culture results generally give us a very good idea of what antibiotics are likely to be useful in treating the infection, so I don't see any problem with using cefpodoxime if this is what your veterinarian has recommended.
