Bernie is very cute! From the photos he looks pretty normal but it is difficult to tell if a furry dog is a good weight or not without being able to put your hands on the pet. Run your fingers over Bernie’s rib cage. They should feel like the back of your own hand. If they feel more like the palm of your hand, he is probably carrying a little too much weight. If they feel more like running your fingers over your knuckles then he is likely too thin. Every pet has a different metabolism and all foods have different calorie content. When in doubt if his weight is good or not, have him checked out by his veterinarian. Congratulations on adding him to your family! I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Unfortunately nipping/lashing out/aggression is a very complex topic and one that may be difficult to fix without a trainer. Because it is multifactoral- Bernie’s temperament, your temperament, Bernie’s experiences, your experiences, the environment- your surest, fastest and safest bet is to work with a trainer or behaviorist. Basically, the trainer will watch you and Bernie, paying attention to how you react to each other and the environmental stimulus. The trainer will then work with both of you to modify both of your behaviors to meet a common goal. The humane society can often recommend a trainer/behaviorist. Otherwise go online and read ratings and reviews. There are several different training methods so you will need to find the one that works best for you and your pup. You should also stop by the library and pick up a few books about dog behavior and dog training so that you can learn to recognize Bernie’s body language. By knowing what he is saying, you be better able to rea

Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. What a cute dog and a nice mix of breeds. The 36 inch crate should be plenty big for him. He will likely either be moms weight or somewhere in between mom or dad. There is no way unfortunately to know for sure; however, you can almost bet that his weight at 4 months times 2, is going to be his adult weight. So use this as a guide. The oatmeal shampoo is ok to use. I personally like the Duoxo gentle shampoo line, if you want to look into another very reputable product. The brush should be a longer semi firm brush. You don't have to get specific when it comes to brands here. They are all relatively the same and will serve the same purpose. Go to your local pet store and ask one of the representatives for a semi-firm brush to choose from. Both these breeds have several health concerns that come to mind, including heart disease, joint problems, hip dysplasia and dental disease. Here is a website link to dogtime.com that lists all the characteristic tra

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would recommend offering more toys that keep Benny busy longer. Kong toys that you can fill with peanut butter work great and you can find the kong toys online or at your local pet store. You can also try NaturVet Quiet Moments calm chews with melatonin which can also be found online or at your local PetCo. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bernie. She sounds very sore. I would give her some time to rest. Then only walk her as far as she can handle. Fresh air and being outside is good for a dog's well being, however the walk needs to be kept within her comfort level. If she shows signs of struggling, you have over done it. She may only be able to go for a minute or two to start. Follow her lead. I hope this information helps!
