Hello. I am so glad that you are considering adopting Bucephalus. You do not indicate his age, but I would not expect a young(er) & healthy dog like this to have any difficulties with the stairs. As he ages, arthritis might limit his ability to climb 4 stories, but this could be the case with about any other breed of dog. If you manage his weight so he does not get obese, & make sure he gets regular exercise to prevent early onset of arthritis, he should do just fine. Good luck & thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

I would not be concerned by infrequent barking, and there is no disease that comes to mind that would cause a deeper bark. Sometimes a change in the sound of the bark can be related to certain diseases but if Bella’s bark has always been this way I wouldn’t worry.

Based on your desires I would recommend a Labrador or Golden retriever. They are eager to please dogs and so easier to train than huskies or hounds and tend to stay close. They also have less of a prey drive than some of the other breeds so less of a risk to your other pets though every dog can be different, I had labs growing up with rabbits and birds and little creatures and they did not harm them.

Unfortunately the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for some reason has been bred with shorter and shorter noses over the last few years, so now it is indeed a brachycephalic dog. You also do not want this breed as it can have serious congenital problems such as heart disease and syringomelia. If you like spaniels any of the other spaniels such as Cocker Spaniel and English Springer Spaniel =, Field Spaniel and Welsh Springer Spaniel are not brachycephalic and less prone to congenital breed specific problems.

In general any thing that is not solid such as a bone, or that its too small or soft which he could break and ingest is ideal. Kong toys tend to be particularly good as they are not very hard on their teeth and cannot be ingested. Another benefit is that you can hide treats in these toys which entertains dogs for longer period of times. Hope this helps and best of luck
