Cerenia is given orally. For motion sickness, this medication can be given once a day for up to two days in a row. Dogs should not be fed 1 hour prior to giving Cerenia. Give Cerenia 2 hours prior to travel. Do not wrap the tablets tightly in fatty food such as cheese or meat, since this may keep the tablets from dissolving and delay the effect of Cerenia. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

So far it's worked like a charm so no more car nausea. Still working on correct dosage for my pup...would love to see these offered in an 80mg pill or heavily scored.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This works like magic!!! Our senior doxie has gotten carsick ever since he was young on any car trip over an hour. We travel to FL wach year from MA, so we asked our vet for a solution, since Dramamine worked inconsistently. Since we started him on Cerenia, he has successful car trips without any carsickness. I highly recommend this product!!

Can you use this to calm a hyperactive puppy? As most calming tablets won't work.

  1. No. The medicine cannot be given more than 2 consecutive days and does not have a calming effect. It is harmful to give medicine other than how it is prescribed.

How long does a dose last? How early should we give to our dog before driving

  1. I gave our 40 pound dog a dose two hours before driving with about a 1/3 of her food. I know it says no food with the drug instructions, but other information sources suggested food. The first time she had it she wasn't interested in eating or drinking on the 12 hour ca ride; the second she did. Dose lasts at least 12 hours.
