Crested geckos—also known as eyelash geckos—are cute and relatively low-maintenance pets that are as appealing to first-time lizard pet parents as they are to long-time enthusiasts. Whatever your experience with lizards, the first step to caring for your new reptile is finding the right crested gecko tank.
A crested gecko tank should be a minimum of 20-gallons, but larger tanks between 30- to 50-gallons may be more accommodating. Since crested geckos are arboreal in the wild and can often like to climb, tall tanks with a lot of vertical space are appropriate.
If you are housing more than one crested gecko, a terrarium of at least 30-gallons is recommended.
A crested gecko cage should contain plants and décor for climbing as well as shelter. Good plants to have in your terrarium include pothos—a low-maintenance vine with large leaves—or the bird’s nest fern that grows quickly in wet soil, has sturdy fronds for shade and can often support the weight of your gecko.
The flooring of the crested gecko terrarium should be lined with a substrate that helps retain moisture. A coconut fiber, moss or peat substrate can be good options that may help facilitate a comfortable habitat for your gecko and help make your terrarium look good.
To clean your crested gecko enclosure, you need the right materials. You’ll use supplies like small buckets, paper towels, brushes, sponges, a safe place to keep your gecko and non-toxic reptile-friendly cleaner, which you can find at Petco along with other reptile products and accessories.

I am about to get a crested gecko and have done lots of research, but am nervous I'll kill my crestie. You see, lots of people have different opinions about additional lighting. 1 breeder said a heat lamp killed many of his crested geckos, while another breeder said it killed her geckos when they DIDNT have a heat lamp. Should I get a heat lamp? (My tank is a 12 by 12 by 18, of that helps at all) Also, should that size tank be good for 1 crested gecko for his entire life?
What is the very minimum amount of space a Crested Gecko should live in?
What's the safest chemical to use when cleaning a newly bought cage for a crested gecko?
Hi there. So I am looking into getting a heat dome for my crested gecko. I know they don’t have to have a heat lam but I want him to have a UVB bulb Because it’s good for them. But I am not quite sure that type to get. Any suggestions? I was looking at petco’s tropical combo pack. He lives in a 10 g. With live plant. (I will upgrade when he is bigger) also do you know an age on him? I got him 3 months ago from petsmart. I could tell he was a male a week after I got him. (Pic from yesterday)
SO i am thinking about getting a leopard gecko, but i am not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a cage so i am using a plastic laundrey hamper that seems about maybe 10 gallons and i am setting up little hiddy spots and stuff but i dont know wha tbeedding i should use and how much light they need please hep :)
Hi! I was wondering what reptile/amphibian/insect/arachnid I can keep in a medium eco terra faunarium? (Roughly 7.5 x 12 inches)
Hello! I’ve been thinking about purchasing a leopard gecko and I’m not sure if your know anything about this but, would it be okay to use a fish tank that was originally used for a hamster?
Are crested geckos good beginner reptile?
What is the best gecko or other small reptile for a beginning reptile keeper that is relatively cheap not counting snakes because my boyfriend won't let me have one. One of my local pet stores has tokay geckos and leopard geckos the other one has a couple more options within my price range but I am still asking for advice. I have a 20 gallon aquarium to keep it in at the moment but I can go larger as it grows if I need to
what size cage does an adult bearded dragon need? what substrate should I use? is bioactivity possible with bearded dragons?
My crestie's feet are not sticky at all, and the stickiness has been slowly getting less and less. I keep the temp in the cage the same as Nomea's temps and humidity. Metalworms are fed almost everyday, and he has TONS of decor and hiding in a 18 by 18 by 24 gallon tank. I don't hold him too much, being around 3 to 5 min each day. As far as I know, he hasn't had a shed in a month, but I very well might have missed it. If shedding is the prob, how do I influence a shed?
hey! so i have a crested gecko named Draco and i’ve heard many things about which floorings to use so i wanted to know if the flooring in the picture is good or not
